Technique Powerful Than Ultra Instinct in Dragon Ball:
As far as Dragon Ball goes, Dragon Ball Super does reveal some pretty potent and powerful moves in Dragon Ball History. The very beginning of the arc saw Goku access the power of a Super Saiyan God. He later mastered the ability to generate and manipulate God Ki with Super Saiyan Blue. He even managed to combine Super Saiyan Blue with Kaio-Ken to develop an even greater ability. But the greatest prized possession in his arsenal will always be the power of Ultra Instinct. Ultra Instinct is an ability reserved for the Gods and Goku is the first-ever mortal to use it. He has created history here. But is it truly the greatest technique in Goku’s quiver? We beg to differ.
Now we know what you guys are thinking. This cannot be true! Ultra Instinct is the Gods’ technique. Nothing can be more powerful than this. Ultra Instinct represents the next level of evolution in the Dragon Ball series. A mantle that was once home to the Super Saiyan transformation will soon be succeeded by Ultra Instinct. Goku mastering consecutive stages of this art is a testament to that effect. But trust us when we say this – there is a technique more powerful than Ultra Instinct.
To explain what we mean, we have to let you know the basics of how things work in Dragon Ball. In the world of Dragon Ball, everything works based on Ki. Ki is the life force generated by any sentient energy being in the universe. The more Ki one generates, the better his or her combat power in battle. Different species generate different amounts of Ki. The Saiyan race and Frieza’s race, for example, have high Ki generation abilities and thus are better warriors by biology. Humans are weaklings since they generate very little Ki. The more you train, the more Ki you generate and the stronger you become. Goku and Vegeta generate a high amount of Ki because they have trained rigorously to improve their strength and power.
There are other ways to accumulate Ki though. In the Dragon Ball saga, the first person to have found a way to steal energy from other sources was Doctor Gero. His androids possessed the power to drain energy from not just non-living sources but even living beings. Life Drain abilities existed in earlier android versions like Android 19. Cell, Doctor Gero’s greatest creation, could absorb not just energy but entire beings into him-self. Cell absorbed hundreds of thousands of humans to perfect his power. That is one way to accumulate more Ki in one’s self.
Energy Absorption is not something new to the Dragon Ball Universe. It has been a tried and tested method in many storylines in the anime. Many villains have used it in combat. But it is not the way Goku likes to fight his battles. Even when using the Super Saiyan God form, Goku detested the power simply because it was not his. And if you have seen the caption, we have already mentioned that Goku has used the technique we are talking about before. If it was this wicked, Goku would not have used it – multiple times.
Have you figured out which technique we might be referring to? This technique has the potential to top Ultra Instinct. If you guys are still confused, we will give you a slight hint. It uses the energy of all life forms in the universe. Yes, we are talking about – the Spirit Bomb.
But how come Spirit Bomb is more powerful than Ultra Instinct you ask? Well, there is a reason for that statement. And we will go in-depth to explain our views regarding why we said what we said right now. There is one specific variation of this attack that might have missed everybody’s attention but needed to be reminded to everyone here. This variation of the Spirit Bomb has the potential to have a striking force more powerful than Ultra Instinct.
In the movie “Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13!”, Goku uses a different kind of attack that takes everyone by surprise. Based off of the Spirit Bomb technique, it is called Spirit Bomb Absorption. And this is the technique we are referring to which we claim to be stronger than Ultra Instinct. Granted Goku has used it only once and that too in a movie, it has been used again by Future Trunks who used it to finish the fight with Fused Zamasu in Dragon Ball Super during the final climactic battle.
The Spirit Bomb Attack is one of the strongest attacks in the Dragon Ball series. Developed by King Kai, this attack involves the user borrowing life force energy from the surroundings, with the potency of the bomb depending upon the number of organisms that lend their life energy to make it up. Goku has used it against Vegeta, Frieza, and even Majin Buu. It is a technique that can rarely be countered but takes a long time to develop and mature as an attack, which is its biggest drawback.
The Spirit Bomb Absorption technique was used first in the Super Android 13 movie. The attack involves generating a large enough Spirit Bomb that has the destructive ability to obliterate an entire planet and then absorbing the entire energy into one’s body. The Spirit Bomb can be created by another user or by the same person who decides to absorb it upon himself. This technique has been used mostly in combination with the Super Saiyan Transformation, which increases its capacity to destroy even further. When used, the user becomes a walking Spirit Bomb him-self. How does it fare against Ultra Instinct you ask?
Ultra Instinct is an innate ability. It is more of a power that requires utmost concentration and training. While it does give a person enhanced speed and agility of a true God, it has some major drawbacks. A mortal like Goku has difficulty unlocking its deeper stages and as of now, Goku is stuck at Ultra Instinct Sign, the initial stage of the Godly Technique. Ultra Instinct Sign is dangerously unstable and to sustain it, Goku has to burn through a lot of his energy reserves. That is Ultra Instinct’s biggest drawback as seen in the Moro arc.
The Spirit Bomb absorption technique is an “acquired” technique. Although it needs concentration, it grants a more balanced palate of a power boost. It not only increases speed but also gives a user devastating explosive strength. That is how Goku defeated Android 13. All it took for Goku was one single punch to take the powerful Android down. The attack was how Fused Zamasu, one of the most powerful beings in the universe, was almost brought to his knees.
Moro already uses a variation of an energy absorption power. Using magic as the base, his absorption ability can suck the life energy of an entire planet in seconds and form an orb to power up the ancient sorcerer. This has proved more than capable of sustaining Moro in his fight against Ultra Instinct Goku. Moro’s absorption abilities are formidable no doubt and Ultra Instinct is proving to be more and more flawed as the fight is being dragged out. The only technique that is more powerful and potent than Moro’s magic-based energy absorption is the Spirit Bomb attack, which technically has the power to ‘borrow’ energy from the entire universe. That is how Goku defeats Moro. The Spirit Bomb absorption technique is the only way for him to win.
The last Dragon Ball arc to have been featured in the Manga is the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga. Released in the year 2018, the Manga is still on-going and again sees the Dragon Ball Universe in grave danger from an ancient enemy that has broken free of its prison. The official synopsis for the arc reads:
Galactic Patrol Kidnapping. Following the ordeal surrounding Broly, Goku trains with Vegeta in the Gravity Training Room. … Vegeta asks why he needs Buu and Merus explains that a dangerous criminal has broken free of the Galactic Prison and in order to recapture him they need the assistance of the Grand Supreme Kai.
