Gambit’s back story is full of depth and it is a shame that it hasn’t been explored properly in a live-action form. As we are now living in the Comic-book movie era, we will definitely see Gambit on the big screen, it is just a matter of when.

Gambit was created by the writer Chris Claremont, artist Jim Lee and he was drawn by artist Mike Collins and he made his first appearances in Uncanny X-Men Annual #14 back in July 1990 and Uncanny X-Men #266 in August 1990. After years, a younger version of Mr. Sinister surgically returned it upon Gambit’s request.

This ultimately led to a Danger Room duel between the two in which Gambit was able to triumph by using a robotic doppelganger of Lady Deathstrike to distract Wolverine. Gambit took advantage of Wolverine’s previous injury to defeat him.

After Rogue kissed Gambit, it was revealed to her that Gambit had assembled the team of Marauders for Mr. Sinister and he had a hand in the massacre of Morlocks. She also came to know that Gambit saved a single girl from the Marauders during the massacre. Rogue absorbed Gambit’s guilt which ultimately caused her to reject him. Subsequently, he was cast out of the X-Men and abandoned in the frozen wastes of Antarctica.

After The Evil mutant Apocalypse made a reappearance, Gambit submitted himself to the villain which was shocking for everyone. He transformed into one of Apocalypse’s Horseman, Death. However, it was later revealed that Gambit planned to infiltrate himself in Apocalypse’s ranks to protect the X-Men, but he miscalculated the power of Apocalypse as the transformation process warped his mind as well as his body. Eventually, he did manage to regain control.

He married Bella Donna Boudreaux, the daughter of the Assassins Guild. This move halted the war between the two guilds and brought peace. But after the wedding, Bella’s brother challenged Gambit in a fight and he was accidentally killed by Gambit, which escalated the war again.
