MCU has a lot of things planned for the next few years. A lot of characters and storylines would be introduced. The highly anticipated release of this year is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The trailers were released recently and have received a decent response. Shang-Chi is a character that is maybe unknown to a large number of audiences. Now after the glimpses of the character, his relationship with his father along with a few more characters, there are some questions Shang-Chi needs to answer with his film.
1. Who is the Death Dealer?
A lot of characters will be introduced in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. We are not familiar with most of these characters. One of those characters is the Death Eater. He was a part of the hired muscle of Shang-Chi’s father and fought with the martial arts master before being killed. His MCU appearance might be similar since he is working with Wenwu and also helped train Shang-Chi when he was a child. Fans have questioned his true identity since his face has been covered by a mask.
2. Is there a new kind of magic in the MCU?
MCU has introduced a lot of magicians into its universe. This includes Wanda Maximoff, Doctor Strange, Ancient One, Wong, and Mordo. Currently, Wanda is the strongest being in the universe and Agatha Harkness has also been revealed to be a master of sorcery. Magic is represented through colors in the MCU. Doctor Strange’s is orange, Wanda’s red, and Agatha’s purple. Now the yellow color has been seen in the power of Shang-Chi and so possibly, MCU might introduce a new kind of magic in its universe.
3. When is the movie set?
It will be a different experience if you watch the 23 movies of the MCU in chronological order. They jump around the timeline. So, there is no way to know when Shang-Chi would be set. Now the appearance of Abomination hints that it might take place after The Incredible Hulk. The film might be set after the events of the Infinity Saga conclusion. Apart from the inclusion of the Abomination and Wong, Shang-Chi may not be tied to any previous or ongoing story. There have been questions about the Ten Rings organization and the Mandarin itself.
4. Does Shang-Chi have powers?
It is not common that every superhero has some sort of power. There have been heroes in MCU without abilities. This includes Tony Stark, Natasha Romanoff, Clint Barton, and Scott Lang. Shang-Chi is also kind of similar. He does not have any powers and abilities except martial arts as stated in the comics. The trailers show him being blasted with a rush of water. He does not speed up but the water slows down for him to touch and admire. But this power is coming from someone else. The scene suggests that it might be Shang-Chi who was manipulating the water.
5. Was that Fin Fang Foom?
Danny Rand’s journey through K’un-Lun and becoming the Iron Fist brought him face to face with the monastery’s dragon. But the Netflix show did not provide us a look at Shou-Lao. The second dragon of the franchise will be seen in Shang-Chi. The second trailer shows the main character underwater with a big dragon lurking there with him. This can be the debut of Fin Fang Foom. It is a shape-shifting alien that lands in ancient China and has been an adversary of the Mandarin in the past.
6. Will there be another unexpected cameo?
The important part of the second trailer was the appearance of the Abomination and Wong. But fans have spotted another surprise. A Captain America shield can also be seen in the background. Now questions about Captain America’s appearance are doing rounds among the MCU fans. The plot details are currently unavailable. So a number of characters are expected to appear. If the film is set after Captain America: Civil War, Steve Rogers might make another appearance in the MCU. If it is set after Avengers: Endgame, we might get to see Sam Wilson or John Walker. Also, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine might recruit Abomination for her Thunderbolts team.
7. Who is Katy?
Every MCU superhero has a sidekick or love interest that accompanies him or her in their journey. Here, Katy is a friend of Shang-Chi and has no place in the superhero world. But her role could take any form in the movie. There are no confirmed connections to any characters in the comics that come to our mind instantly but that doesn’t mean no inspiration will be taken. Awkwafina is one of the well-known faces in Hollywood and has also voiced Sisu in Raya and the Last Dragon. She will appear in The Little Mermaid along with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
8. Exactly how powerful are the Ten Rings?
The Ten Rings are very old in the MCU since they have made their debut in the beginning. Obadiah Stone paid the group to kidnap and kill Tony Stark. But now the things might be different. The real Mandarin will make his appearance with Shang-Chi and the other part of the movie’s title is The Legend of the Ten Rings. Here the Ten Rings are completely different in comparison to the source material. Initially, the rings were worn by the Mandarin but here they appear like a band. Shang-Chi’s background has been changed in the MCU. Considering the creative liberties taken by Marvel Studios, more changes might get revealed.
9. What are Wong and the Abomination doing?
MCU has always maintained secrecy in its upcoming projects. The same applies to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The second trailer shows the main character psyching him for a fight and watches the two others go at it. The characters were Wong and Abomination. This was an unexpected moment. Wong was an important part of the final battle in Avengers: Endgame. Also, Emil Blonsky has not appeared for 13 years. Both of them have nothing in common but it has to be seen how they ended up fighting each other.
10. Where Has the Mandarin Been All This Time?
The 10 Rings have been around ever since the first Iron Man movie. But we never saw their leader make an appearance. He didn’t even show himself when Aldrich Killian took his identity. So where has he been and what has he been doing? This is the biggest matter that Shang-Chi and the Legends of the 10 Rings must address.
