Fat Thor Will Not Be Back in Love and Thunder:
Avengers: Endgame totally pulled off some great surprises with at least 3 of the OG Avengers. First, we saw Smart Hulk. Then we got to see how Tony had raised a family and had a sweet little daughter over the last 5 years. But the biggest of surprises came when we saw Thor turn into a beer-bellied failure after he couldn’t stop Thanos. While his transformation came as a surprise, it was a huge success because first of all, none of us really expected it. Secondly, Thor’s transformation actually made him more relatable to the viewers. Life is equally hard for a God as it is for common people. Failure could take a toll on a person and he could drown in alcohol. But now, Thor will be on a redemption arc and people will relate to that too.
With Thor, things usually go in phases. His new haircut in Ragnarok was a phase. Now, he will be back with a full beard and long hair. But we shouldn’t expect to see him with all the extra pounds and a belly. We believe that Thor will have worked out. In his interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, Taika Waititi was asked about the return of Bro Thor as we saw him in Endgame. He replied:
“This is an ongoing debate that we’re still having at Marvel. Cause we’re trying to figure out how long – how many months or years – this is after Endgame, at what point does this take place?”
So, even if Thor: Love and Thunder takes place around 5-8 months after Endgame, we believe that Thor will have worked out and regained a bit of his shape by that time. Queen Frigga had put him back on the right path. His talk with his mother made him realize that he can bounce back. He can redeem himself. Frigga said: “Everyone fails at who they are supposed to be Thor. The measure of a person, a hero, is how well they succeed at being who they are.” She motivated Thor. He was revamped from this moment once again. And right before he left Asgard to undo Thanos’ snap, his mother also told him to “Eat a salad.” This was clue big enough for us to know Bro Thor was just a one-off thing. Now we will see yet another phase of evolution with Thor.
In fact, we may already have an idea as to how exactly will Thor look in Thor: Love and Thunder. Thor will be adventuring with the Guardians. He is not King Thor anymore. We believe that he will actually have a totally new looking suit, one that is more in line with the Guardians and not his old Asgardian attires. Or maybe it could be a mixture telling us that Thor is now an “Asgardian of the Galaxy.” He can obviously return to those Asgardian suits, but Marvel has another opportunity to totally surprise us with Thor. So, they will definitely take it and come up with something totally different, unique & unexpected.
And along with the changed suit, we will get to see a bulkier Thor. Bulkier in the sense that he will have lost his belly and gotten fit, but he wouldn’t have cut all the mass and return back to the shape he was in Infinity War. He’d be more in line with a heavy weight lifter. How do we know this? Well, Chris Hemsworth himself stated that he is going to bulk up for his upcoming Hulk Hogan biopic on Netflix. His transformation into Hulk Hogan would also go well with what he should look like in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Back in July, Chris Hemsworth spoke to Total Film about his Hulk Hogan role. He said:
“This movie is going to be a really fun project. As you can imagine, the preparation for the role will be insanely physical. I will have to put on more size than I ever have before, even more than I put on for Thor. And then there is the accent as well as the physicality and the attitude. I will also have to do a deep dive into the rabbit hole of the wrestling world, which I’m really looking forward to doing,”
Hemsworth will be shooting Thor 4 right after the Hulkamania movie. So, he will obviously be carrying his Hulk Hogan transformation into Thor: Love and Thunder as well. Be ready to be fully surprised with Thor once again. Thor: Love and Thunder arrives on February 18, 2022.
