Shazam DC Comics’ Strongest Super Villain

SPOILER ALERT: Major Spoilers for Shazam! #8 up ahead. Enter at your own risk…..

After Billy Batson became Shazam, his world would never be the same again. The Wizard who guarded the Rock of Eternity allowed him to share his powers with his most trusted of allies. Billy realized that he needed a family of superheroes he could rely on in time of need. That is why his other foster friends – Eugene, Pedro, Mary, Freddy, and Darla were the ones who received a part of his powers and became superheroes themselves. The DC Rebirth storyline changed that origin story altogether. The Rebirth told the story of Billy and his friends discovering a magic train that led them into the seven magic lands, each land once home to one champion. Billy and the Shazam Family made six members. So who is the seventh champion? Turns out, all these years, the Shazam family was one member short!!!

The seventh champion to share Billy’s powers turns out to be none other than Billy Batson’s father – C.C Batson. But this is where the troubles begin. The Council of Eternity has seven seats in total and the occupier of each seat holds commands immense power. When King Kid, the lord of Funlands, tried to trick Billy into giving him access to the seventh seat, Billy quickly caught up to his ruse and made C.C Batson the newest member to become a part of the Shazam family.

Shazam DC Comics’ Strongest Super Villain

The trouble does not end here. We literally know nothing about Billy Batson’s father. All we know is that the guy was in prison for a long time. He committed a bank robbery that ended up being a train-wreck and the rest of his gang members burned him. He claims that he took up the job so that he could support his family. Right now, after appearing only seven issues ago, C.C Batson is trying to turn a new leaf and reunite with his wife and child. But was it wise of Billy to gift so much power to a character that just appeared just a while ago??

When the Seven Sins tried to kill C.C Batson by dropping him from a height, Billy’s power bestowal saved him. He got a whole new set of abilities like flight, electricity manipulation and super strength. He also got a cool new costume. It is a yellow suit with red linings. That is the exact opposite of Billy Batson’s Shazam suit. The last time we saw someone sporting a suit which was basically the inverted colors of a superhero was Reverse-Flash, the arch-nemesis of the Flash. Is DC trying to imply something here? Or are we imagining things?? Is the newest Shazam actually on track to become a supervillain in his own right?!?!

Shazam was released on April 5, 2019. The official film synopsis for the movie reads:

We all have a superhero inside of us — it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In 14-year-old Billy Batson’s case, all he needs to do is shout out one word to transform into the adult superhero Shazam. Still a kid at heart, Shazam revels in the new version of himself by doing what any other teen would do — have fun while testing out his newfound powers. But he’ll need to master them quickly before the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana can get his hands on Shazam’s magical abilities.

Do I really look like a guy with a plan? You know what I am? I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it! You know, I just... do things
