June 25, 2015 witnessed the flagship of the scheme- 100 smart cities in India. The scheme also includes the initiative to modify villages into “smart villages”. The villages would be a place with adequate water supply, sanitation, low carbon energy and Internet access. A goal has been set for about 2,500 smart villages by the year 2019.
As quote by Mr. Modi in one of his speech: “For the first time in India, a challenge was being floated in which the citizens of urban India could contribute in the formulation of development visions of their cities”.
