Shang-Chi Just Knocked Out The Toughest Superhero And Became A Villain

Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings just defied every critic and became a hit among fans. The movie has currently grossed over $262 million worldwide. As you know, Shang-Chi is a direct derivative of a Marvel Comics character of the same name. He is quite different in the books, but he also has several similarities with his MCU counterpart. However, he does not possess the Ten Rings currently. So, he is written as a Kung Fu master who is a member of the Five Weapons Society, instead of his affiliation to the Ten Rings.

Shang-Chi didn’t receive much admiration and respect as it did in the MCU movie. Some comic fanatics do not even approve of the character. They believe that he is just weaker and badly written as compared to his fellow superheroes. Or, at least, they used to! In the Shang-Chi #4 issue, Shang-Chi takes a villainous turn and KOes the toughest and ‘hardest’ superhero in all of the comics with a single punch. And this is just the starting of his descent to the ‘dark side’.

Shang-Chi was known for his integrity and peace-loving nature. However, this all changes when he inherits the Five Weapons Society from his father. The Society was more of a cult and corrupted his very nature. With all the responsibilities of running an organization, Shang-Chi’s life starts to fall apart. And during the ascent of the organization, the Society comes across the infamous Fantastic Four. And our beloved superhero is confronted by The Thing.

In the comics, The Thing’s cells got mutated at a molecular level and he changes into a giant moving pile of rocks. But even his rocky exterior couldn’t save him from the Master of Kung Fu. Shang-Chi blew a punch towards the Thing and knocked him right out. This was a callout to every critic who underestimated Shang-Chi.

WHAT REALLY HAPPENED THAT LED TO THE ‘CONFRONTATION’?

Shang-Chi wanted to get into the Negative Zone to get his sister back. He was having a recurring dream where he felt his long-lost sister calling out to him from their old family home. Shang-Chi pays a visit to the Five Weapons Society’s sorcerer and asks him about the dreams he was having. Mister Lee, the sorcerer, leads him to the Negative Scene, which led him to Reed Richards, popularly known as Mr. Fantastic. Apparently, Reed Richards is an expert when it comes to the Negative Zone.

Shang-Chi finds his way to the group (in the Baxter Building) and asks them for using their machine to open a portal to the Negative Zone. As it turns out, Reed Richards declined his request but Shang-Chi was stubborn. He came back later and broke into the laboratory. He managed to access the Negative Zone and brought back his mother (, instead of his sister). When they returned, The Thing was waiting for them at the entrance.

When the rest of the team arrived at the scene, The Thing asked them who allowed Shang-Chi to be here. And just as the Thing got distracted, Shang-Chi jumped at the opportunity and punched him at a particular weak point on the back of the Thing. Shang-Chi’s years and years of training were evident at this moment. Shang-Chi punched the Thing so precisely that the Thing fell off his feet instantly. However, Reed Richards interfered and broke the fight.

Reed Richards did not take this lightly. Shang-Chi attacked Reed’s family and he took it as an act of war. Following this event, Shang-Chi had encounters with Spider-Man, Wolverine and Spider-Man. Much like his counterpart’s father, Xu Wenwu, the comic Shang-Chi’s motive to reunite his family is turning him into a supervillain. And if Shang-Chi’s act against the Thing has proved anything, it is that he is a force to be reckoned with.
