10 MCU Characters Who Should Get A Prequel After Black Widow

After a long wait, Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff is finally getting her solo movie. Black Widow has already been released in theaters and it has received a positive response. On the occasion of its release, Kevin Feige has said that more MCU characters might get prequels in the future. Characters like Hawkeye and James Rhodes would get their stories explored in the upcoming Disney+ series. But many other characters are yet to get their prequels and explore their backstories. So here are the MCU characters who should get a prequel according to us.

MCU Characters Who Should Get A Prequel

1. Thanos

Thanos has been considered as one of the strongest MCU villains till now. Reports say that his place might be taken by Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. MCU films have always offered hints about Thanos’ past like the destruction of his homeworld, his invasion of other planets, and his relationship with Gamora. He is the hero of his own story and it will be great to see his ascent from an environmental activist on Titan to a warlord who believes that he must collect all the Infinity Stones anyhow.

2. Howard the Duck

The past of Howard the Duck is still a mystery. But the character still appeared in Collector’s guardian in Guardians of the Galaxy. He is freed and eventually joins the Avengers in their battle against Thanos. According to the comics, Howard the Duck comes from the Duckworld. It is a planet like Earth but is populated by anthropomorphic ducks. He is a funny and sarcastic character with a past that can be explored in a prequel film that would show how he got from the Duckworld to the Collector’s collection.

3. Isaiah Bradley

MCU Characters Who Should Get A Prequel

Isaiah Bradley was introduced in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. During the Korean War, the US government gave the Super Soldier Serum to Isaiah Bradley who spent the rest of his life facing discrimination, incarceration, and experimentation before getting the credit he deserves at the end of the series. He mentioned events like saving his unit from a POW camp and his battle against the Winter Soldier who was under HYDRA’s control at that time. The character deserves a prequel movie since his backstory was not properly explored.

4. Rocket and Groot

When they were introduced to Guardians of the Galaxy, Rocket, and Groot have already been through several adventures together and shared a strong friendship. But apart from learning that Rocket was a subject of experimentation, we know very little about their pasts. The characters are now fan favorites and audiences would love to see more of them. Marvel can sell these fans on a prequel that shows Rocket’s tragic backstory as mentioned by him. It can show Rocket and Groot meeting and becoming friends and their dealings in the criminal underworld.

5. The Hulk

After The Incredible Hulk, Marvel has always shown Hulk as a side character. The major reason is the rights issues with Universal Studios. Many gaps in the character’s history can be filled with a Black Widow-type prequel. One fitting candidate for this can be the adaptation of one of Hulk’s best comic book arcs of all time, Planet Hulk. It is set on Sakaar before Thor arrived. Another option can be to show how he found peace and became Professor Hulk between the events of Infinity War and Endgame.

6. Black Panther

After making his debut in Captain America: Civil War, T’Challa made his solo debut in Black Panther that was a huge success. Chadwick Boseman, who played the character passed away in 2020. But still, a sequel has been greenlit. Considering the death of Boseman, Marvel can consider a prequel. The prequel can focus on the lineage of the Black Panther mantle and highlight one of Wakanda’s previous kings. It can also follow a young T’Challa on an adventure early in his tenure as the Black Panther.

7. Yondu

MCU Characters Who Should Get A Prequel

The main element of Yondu’s redemption arc in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was his acceptance back into the Ravagers. He earned a traditional Ravager Funeral at the end of the movie. As a part of this arc, audiences were introduced to his previous crew that included Stakar Ogord, Mainframe, and Krugarr, who alluded to their past together. This can be the plot of the potential prequel movie that explores Yondu’s initiation into the Ravagers, his missions with the crew, and the eventual falling out they had over his kidnapping of children.

8. Agatha Harkness

Agatha Harkness made her debut in Disney+’s WandaVision. The character was seen as the neighbor of Wanda and Vision. The character’s origin in Salem and the trials were shown but the rest of the details are still a mystery. She has spent a lot of time mastering her craft, encountered magical beings, and studying the legend of the Scarlet Witch. There are hundreds of years between the time she killed her coven and showed up in Westview that can be explored in a prequel.

9. Hela

Hela was the main antagonist in Thor: Ragnarok. She is revealed to have played an instrumental part in Odin’s conquest and dominion over the Nine Realms before leading a civil war against Odin. After she was banished to Hel by Odin, she tried to escape and killed all the Valkyrie in the process. A prequel film that shows this rise to power and conflict with Odin can tell more of the cosmic history of the MCU and also fleshing out important characters like Hela, Odin, and Brunnhide, offering battle scenes on a huge scale.

10. Grandmaster

The Grandmaster made his debut in Thor: Ragnarok. He was the eccentric ruler of the trash planet Sakaar and forced people to engage in gladiator-style battles for his amusement. He is a strange, sinister and hilarious character who made a lasting impression on the audience. A Grandmaster prequel movie can show his early days where he grew up with his brother Taneleer Tivan, the Collector. It can also explore his arrival on Sakaar, his ascent to power, the installation of his regime, and the institution of the gladiator battles.
