10 Major Changes Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3 Could Bring To MCU

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been delayed for various reasons. James Gunn was fired by Marvel Studios. Now he has been hired again to direct the third part of this franchise. The film has been scheduled for a May 5, 2023 release. Now we saw a lot of things happening in the last few MCU movies after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Now for sure, those events are going to somehow affect and bring changes in the plot of Vol. 3. It is yet to be seen how the makers plan to continue the story. But let’s see the changes Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3 can bring to the MCU.

1. Drax’s daughter to be shown alive

There has been a rumor about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Sources say that Drax’s daughter will be revealed to be alive in the movie. Fan theories say that she might be Moondragon. According to the comics, she learned that her own father’s soul bonded with a new body. This is what led to the creation of Drax the Destroyer. Dealing with Drax’s grief in Vol. 3 will also bring a lot of character development for Drax. But this will be better if it is an emotional payoff.

2. Set up for solo spin-offs

Guardians of the Galaxy might be the last film of the Guardians franchise. Also, James Gunn might not return to direct another MCU movie after this one. But this does not mean that the characters would leave MCU. The characters remaining will be kept in MCU for future spin-offs. The film is surely going to set up certain situations for spin-offs. We might get to see Rocket and Groot together in another movie and Gamora and Nebula in another.

3. One of the Guardians will be permanently killed

Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is yet to kill a member permanently on the screen. The Avengers franchise killed Iron Man on screen. Steve Rogers did not die, but he retired as Captain America and passed the mantle to Sam Wilson. In the Guardians franchise, the original Groot died but he was replaced immediately. Gamora was killed in Avengers: Infinity War but was brought back in Avengers: Endgame. Now it is possible that one Guardian might be killed or maybe more.

4. The backstory of Rocket

changes Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3

Another rumor that has been doing the rounds about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is that it will reveal the backstory of Rocket. We have seen this character since the first film of the Guardians franchise. But we don’t know anything about his birth and upbringing. There have been hints that Rocket was created by scientists through some painful experiments. Now there is a chance that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 might shed some light on the evolution of the character.

5. Nebula becomes Guardian of the Galaxy

Nebula was a villain in the first Guardians of the Galaxy. But she became an ally in the second film. She worked with Rocket as an Avenger during the Endgame’s five-year time gap. Nebula was very much matured to join the Guardians as a permanent member. The final scene of Endgame hinted that she might have joined the Guardians. But Vol. 3 might announce and reveal this thing officially. This can be the same as Yondu’s “Welcome to the frickin’ Guardians of the Galaxy” induction in Vol. 2.

6. Gamora as a villain once again

Gamora went through a very big change between the first two Guardians movies. She later became a caring friend and sister and was then killed in Avengers: Infinity War. Her character from the first film was brought back in Avengers: Endgame. She was seen fighting along with Nebula. She then quietly flees the scene. Vol. 2 might revolve around Quill’s search for the woman he loves. But Gamora will be completely different here. So introducing Gamora as a villain might make fans more excited to see the movie.

7. Reassembly of the original Guardians team

Vol. 2’s mid-credits scene saw the reuniting of the original Guardians of the Galaxy team. It had a group of A-listers that included Sylvester Stallone, Michelle Yeoh, Ving Rhames, and the voice of Miley Cyrus. Now there is a chance that Marvel Studios might be saving them for another spin-off. There is also another possibility. We might get to see the original Guardians of the Galaxy team joining the present members of the team in a battle sequence in Vol.3.

8. A new Guardians team

changes Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3

As mentioned earlier, Vol. 3 might be the last film of the Guardians franchise. But this does not mean that Disney will stop here. The film might end with the disbanding of the current Guardian team. There is a chance that a new team might take their place. This will perfectly fit with the ongoing situation in the MCU. For example, Falcon has taken the mantle of Captain America, Kate Bishop has become the new Hawkeye, and Jane Foster would become Thor. So here a new team will become the Guardians of the Galaxy.

9. Quill’s Zune opens up the soundtrack to a new era of music

Quill’s Walkman was destroyed by Ego in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. But Kraglin gave him a Zune that picked up on Earth. So the Guardians’ soundtracks are no more confined to the later ‘60s and early ‘70s songs. Quill’s mother left those songs for him when she died. This has not been a problem since the best songs were created in the ‘60s and ‘70s. But Quill’s Zune opens up Marvel’s music department for exploring new musical styles and genres with Vol.3’s “Awesome Mix”.

10. Introduction of Adam Warlock

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’s mid-credits scene also teased the introduction of Adam Warlock. This is because the Sovereign planned to create an artificial being capable of destroying the Guardians and name them “Adam”. Fans were expecting to see Adam Warlock in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. But that did not happen and it left MCU fans disappointed. Now there is a possibility that we might get to see the character in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

So these are the changes Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3 could make in the MCU.
