Drax The Destroyer is a very popular character in the Marvel universe and his cinematic portrayal by Dave Bautista was also very well received. Although the MCU version and the comic book version are very different from each other, they both are equally loved by the fans.

#1: Creation and Debut

Drax The Destroyer was created by Jim Starlin in February 1973. He debuted in the popular comic book, ‘The Invincible Iron Man #55’. Jim Starlin wanted to create a different type of character which was not at all generic. Drax and Thanos made their debut from the same comic book, as Drax was created as a weapon against Thanos.

Drax the Destroyer was a human being at first named Arthur Douglas, whose family was attacked and killed by the supervillain Thanos. In the Comic Book series, Cancerverse, Drax and his fellow Guardians of the Galaxy battled the evil version of the Avengers. Drax and his team finally defeated the Avengers, but not completely. In the Cancerverse, the concept of permanent death was not present so it was impossible to kill anyone. Only Thanos was able to completely destroy the characters in that reality.

His Blood had a component that acted as a powerful hallucinatory stimulant when ingested by some species. So Drax used to sell his blood as a drug to other species. Drax completely lost his cool and went after Thanos. He fought Thanos and ultimately murdered him by literally ripping his heart out of his body, and saved his daughter.
