Marvel Comics Suggest That The Same Type of Mjolnir Cannot Be Forged Again In Thor 4

When we think about Thor 4, the first question that comes to our minds is – How will Taika Waititi bring Mjolnir back so that Jane could prove her worthiness and turn into the Mighty Thor? There have been several theories based on it. We recently covered the ones where Jane’s Thor could be from Loki’s alternate Universe, where Hela destroyed a fake Mjolnir, or where a new Mjolnir was already forged back in Avengers: Infinity War. We will take a look into the third theory once again.

Erik Voss from New Rockstars presented circumstantial evidence that Eitri had already forged Mjolnir back in Avengers: Infinity War. In the image you see above, the melted Uru Metal was poured into the mold of Stormbreaker. Soon after that, Eitri broke the mold into pieces, and what’s left are the 2 pieces of the axe. But did you notice that the molten Uru metal was also poured into a second mold on the right? Since both the pieces of Stormbreaker came from a single mold, it’s clear that Eitri forged another weapon along with the axe. Since the only other Uru weapon that is supposed to arrive in the MCU is Mjolnir, it has been theorized that another version of the hammer was reforged right under our noses.

Peter Dinklage Return as Eitri in Thor 4

If this is true, or even if we will find Eitri forging another Mjolnir in Thor 4, we can still be certain that the new Mjolnir will not be the same as the previous one. That is because of 2 major reasons. The first reason is that this new Mewmew won’t be enchanted like the previous one. So, aside from regular humans, the individuals who are as strong as Captain America and can withstand the power of the godly weapon, can all wield this hammer. But the second reason of its differentiation from the original is the way in which this new one has been forged.

Peter Dinklage Return as Eitri in Thor 4

Let’s assume that the original Mjolnir in the MCU was forged exactly in the same way as it was done in the comics. Then, the new Mjolnir will lack another key element besides the enchantment. It is known that Mjolnir predates Thor in the comics and in the MCU. It was Odin who had it forged by the dwarves of Nidavellir way before Thor was even born. Odin trapped a “cosmic storm” in a chunk of Uru, and then he asked the dwarves to forge it into a hammer. So, Mjolnir was truly one of its kind, and its specialty came from the cosmic storm that was trapped in it. Maybe that’s what allowed Thor to manipulate the weather conditions (or maybe not, because Thor could do the same with Stormbreaker). Anyway, the Uru metal is well suited for magical enchantments, so Mjolnir only grew stronger with Odin’s enchantment.

So, if the creation of MCU’s Mjolnir was not different from the comics, then the second Mjolnir that possibly Eitri forged in Avengers: Infinity War won’t carry the aforementioned specialties (the cosmic storm & the enchantment). Sure, it could come with its own abilities, like the Stormbreaker came with the blue aura of the Gods & the ability to summon the Bifrost. But it won’t be the same as the one that Hela wrecked. If this enunciation turns out to be true, then it’d be interesting to see how the new Mjolnir will be different from the old one. It’d be cool if it would have some fascinating new abilities of its own, which will allow the Mighty Thor to be differentiated from Thor Odinson.

But we’d like to argue that it still needs to have a worthiness enchantment. That is what should turn Jane into the Mighty Thor. The enchantment is what makes Thor’s powers special. So, how will this new hammer get enchanted if Odin is gone? Well, to solve that we’ve got a separate theory. It’s possible that Thor already has the Odinforce in him, or will get it in Love and Thunder. So, when he does get the Odinforce (the Thorforce), maybe he could also cast enchantments upon his weapons like Odin was able to. So that way, he might just cast a new enchantment on Mjolnir 2.0:

“Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess my powers.”

Whatever turns out to be the case, we will surely miss the old hammer. Avengers: Endgame proved how special it was. What do you think about the theories mentioned above? Is it possible that any of them could come true? We’d like to know your opinions in the comments down below.
