Dragon Ball Goku beats Beerus:
The last time these two powerful beings fought, the Earth shook and the universe trembled. Dragon Ball Super, the successor to Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball Z, introduced (and re-introduced) some major characters in the Dragon Ball Universe. Chief amongst them would be Lord Beerus, Universe 7’s God of Destruction. His coming signaled great things were about to happen in Dragon Ball. And they did. When Beerus came knocking on Earth’s doorsteps, Goku answered the door. They fought and the battle ended with Beerus sparing Earth. Goku though realized that he is hilariously out-matched. But recent developments point to one undeniable fact – Goku is about to surpass Beerus.
First introduced as a supervillain who wanted to annihilate Earth, Beerus turned out to be a pivotal character in the series for the next few arcs! He was the reason Dragon Ball ascended into the final frontier that is space. His coming indicated the existence of God and Goku still has ways to go before he reaches their level. Before Beerus, every fight Goku fought looked like a piece of cake for him. During the climactic Goku vs. Beerus fight, the latter reveals just how hilariously out-matched Goku is against the Gods and that he is still a weakling that has much to learn. It was the first battle in a long time that Goku lost – fair and square. Beerus spared Earth not because of Goku’s resistance but due to the fact that he liked Earth’s food and did not want it to go to waste.
Super Saiyan God was a major power boost to Goku’s already impressive set of abilities. Despite its glaring flaws, it showed that Dragon ball still had the ability to astonish its fan base right when they thought that they had seen everything there is to Dragon Ball. It did make Beerus not hold back anymore. Super Saiyan God gave Beerus a serious run for his money and the fight would have ended in Goku’s favor if Beerus would have held back further. As Goku trained under Whis, the Angel Attendant of Lord Beerus of Universe 7, he unlocked a better, more efficient version of Super Saiyan God called Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan aka Super Saiyan Blue. He finally perfected the flawed Super Saiyan God technique, which in its original version, was enough to keep even Beerus on his toes.
It was in the tournament of power that we saw Goku achieve higher levels of power, beyond that of even Super Saiyan Blue. Combining Super Saiyan Blue with Kaio-Ken, Goku unlocked Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-Ken. That was enough to hold even Jiren for a while. But he never stopped there. The climactic battle with Jiren at the end of Tournament of Power saw Goku push beyond his absolute physical and mental boundaries and limits. He finally accessed the power of Ultra Instinct, a technique of the Gods, a technique that until then Beerus thought was not available to mortal beings like Goku. These power upgrades show that either a Goku-Beerus rematch is about to happen or Beerus is about to be overpowered and overthrown by our favorite Saiyan.
Autonomous Ultra Instinct completely changes the game. Goku had trouble sustaining the form for a longer period of time. Just like Super Saiyan God, it is an ability yet to be mastered completely by Goku. But if past precedents are any indication, it is only a matter of time before Goku does it again. There is a way for Goku to master the ability and sustain it longer. Whis claims on the record that the Super Saiyan God form can help Goku master Ultra Instinct and sustain it longer. With just Ultra Instinct, Goku almost brought Jiren to his knees, who is thought to be more powerful than any God of Destruction. Goku has even fought and defeated Broly in the now canon movie Dragon Ball: Broly. Both Broly and Jiren have been observed by Goku to be stronger than Beerus. These are just some of the many examples to prove our point.
Super Saiyan Blue Ultra Instinct – Is it enough to overpower Beerus?
When Whis said that Super Saiyan God can sustain Autonomous Ultra Instinct, he knew what he was saying and not shooting arrows in the dark. Whis is the most powerful of all Angels and he has had a lot of time in his hands to master the Godly techniques before he taught them to Beerus. So he knows what he is talking about. But he never said that whether that form will be enough to take down Beerus. We might have a way to find out how.
If we look and dive deep into the lore of Dragon Ball, we can find some hard facts regarding Super Saiyan God. The first and foremost is that it takes six pure-hearted Saiyans for a Super Saiyan to achieve Super Saiyan God power. To achieve a sustainable form of Super Saiyan God, you must combine it with the power of a Super Saiyan form. That can be done through rigorous training and vie the help of a deity who has access to God Ki. That is the prerequisite for unlocking Super Saiyan Blue.
The Super Saiyan Blue form has several advantages over the normal Super Saiyan God form. It is more efficient and grants greater control over Ki. Conventional Super Saiyan forms leak massive amounts of Ki with each subsequent transformation. That is the reason why Goku and Vegeta find it hard to sustain these forms for long and it is easy to track them with Ki sense. But in Super Saiyan Blue form, no Ki is actually leaked out as the body becomes a closed loop. This not only makes a Super Saiyan Blue stealthier and almost invisible to Ki sense but even helps them store up energy that would have otherwise leaked out and been wasted.
Super Saiyan Blue provides a user with a steadier supply of God Ki. That is the most important aspect of the form. When Goku finally mastered Ultra instinct Sign, Merus claims that it is still a rather volatile step and is unstable. To maintain that stability requires Goku to spend even more energy and Ki, which is counter-productive and defeats the purpose. Ultra Instinct requires a method for Goku to stabilize the God Ki generated by his body. That is where Super Saiyan Blue comes in. And one more advantage is that Super Saiyan Blue has actually shown the ability to have a combinational effect with other combat techniques. If Goku could do it with Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-Ken, then Super Saiyan Blue Ultra Instinct will not be far behind.
The question still remains – will Super Saiyan Blue Ultra Instinct be enough to outrun Lord Beerus? We believe Goku has already surpassed Lord Beerus. Currently with the potential Super Saiyan Blue Ultra Instinct has for Goku, he might be on his way to rival the power of Whis, the most powerful Angel Attendant of them all. All Goku needs now is a rematch and that will settle the score once and for all.
The last Dragon Ball arc to have been featured in the Manga is the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga. Released in the year 2018, the Manga is still on-going and again sees the Dragon Ball Universe in grave danger from an ancient enemy that has broken free of its prison. The official synopsis for the arc reads:
Galactic Patrol Kidnapping. Following the ordeal surrounding Broly, Goku trains with Vegeta in the Gravity Training Room. … Vegeta asks why he needs Buu and Merus explains that a dangerous criminal has broken free of the Galactic Prison and in order to recapture him they need the assistance of the Grand Supreme Kai.
