The Guardians of the Galaxy have always been an outlaw at heart. The team consists of freaks, outcasts, and thieves with a special skill set coming together to defend innocent lives all throughout the universe. The most popular iteration of the Guardians saw Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket Racoon, Drax and Groot coming together for forming the 21st Century Guardians of the Galaxy. There have been several other versions before and after them. Just like the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy have a rotating membership and there are times when the whole team is replaced by a new one. And this is exactly what has happened in the Marvel Comics Universe now. Presenting – Marvel Comics Update – Behold the all-new Guardians of the Galaxy team!!!!
The new Guardians of the Galaxy team now consist of all new comic juggernauts. The new team was recently launched by Marvel. Some faces are all too familiar while some are new and unique to this team altogether.
It was only in January of this year that the Guardians of the Galaxy had their last appearance in Marvel Comics. The Guardians of the Galaxy #50 saw the rebirth of Adam Warlock and the end of the storyline. The Guardians would then be featured in infinity Countdown, which was a pathfinder series to help pave the way for Marvel’s on-going Infinity Wars series. The Guardians of the Galaxy have finally made their return to the comic books with another team and it is all new to the Marvel readers.
Marvel is just beginning to slowly and steadily reveal each character for the series. The storyline that is going to hit the stores for the series is titled “Who will stand when the last Guardian falls?” The Guardians of the Galaxy #1 poster has already been made available for the general public to gawk at. The new team consists of Star-Lord, Nova, Groot, Dark Hawk, Beta Ray Bill, Silver Surfer, Adam Warlock, Cosmic Ghost Rider Moon-Dragon, Phyla-Vell, and Gladiator. And here’s the kicker – at the end of the series, only six of them will be able to make it the end of the series. That means almost every guy, except the founding 6, will be alive. That is a lot to ask of a team that has just been formed.
Thanos is dead and the universe is left reeling. But what threat could be greater than Thanos? Is it a threat that is big enough to destroy the mighty Guardians of the Galaxy?
After Gamora has decided to go down the Dark Path and become a ruthless villain called Requiem, the whole Guardians team has seen a massive face-lift. Only Star-Lord and Groot are from the original super awesome team. The rest are new faces. Cosmic Ghost Rider aka Frank Castle surely is an interesting addition. And what is with the “ultimate sacrifice” crap they are trying to pull on us? Will a Guardian die or will multiple of them bite the dust? It is all very confusing, to begin with. Dark Hawk and Silver Surfer have been part of the Guardians before and are very powerful cosmic heroes. They are not the ones that will probably die this time.
Maybe it is Adam Warlock, whose resurrection has been nothing but troublesome for the Marvel Comics Universe. There will be a reckoning. The Guardians of the Galaxy have had a history of being cornered into twisted fixes. Let us hope they can get out of this one fair and square.
The Guardians last appeared in Avengers: Infinity War, the third installment to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Avengers franchise. The official synopsis for the movie reads:
Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet — the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artifacts to inflict his twisted will on reality. The fate of the planet and existence itself has never been more uncertain as everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment.
