Here’s How Hulk Vs Thanos Went In The Comics

Titans. All powerful and astounding creatures capable of razing civilizations and leveling planets. The etymology of the word finds its origins in the mythology of the Greeks. Greeks, mostly homer in his epic The Odyssey and Titanomachy, talks about primordial beings with limitless powers and then dubs these cosmic presences as titans. Titans were the manifestation of the world around us, or rather If mythology is to be believed the world around us is the very manifestation of titans themselves. So what happens when two titans of the Marvel universe clash head-on in a battle of wills and strength. What happens when a being of limitless power clashes with the man with anger issues. Hulk vs Thanos, here’s how it went in comics and who would win and why.

But before we move on to the death battle of these immensely powerful and British competitors let’s take a look at their individual origin stories, powers and abilities and strength scale so that we have a better idea of the gladiator match we are about to witness.

Thanos

The tyrant of the dark quadrant and the creature wildly renowned throughout the universe as the Mad Titan is, in fact, a hybrid born of the eternal. The Eternals were a race created by the primary creatures of the Marvel comic-verse known only as the celestials. These celestials include beings we are already familiar with including the grandmaster and the collector. You see, the Celestials were the creators of all life in the Marvel comic verse, or so the writers have led us to believe.

Although these beings of supreme power populated the universe with complex life, along the way they also realized that they had somewhat disturbed the balance of the universe in doing so. Hence, to correct their mistakes the celestials took to experimentation on the life they had so created, to judge it worthy enough to let it perpetuate itself or not. Hence, the segregation of the humans into three categories by the celestials.

The first were the beings who were a distorted image of the human life, a subterranean species that would become the source of rumors of trolls and monsters in the modern era. The second was the normal humans themselves that populated the planet earth. And lastly, the second variation of the human species was near perfect genetic beings known only as the eternal. The Eternals were blessed with perfect genetic structure giving them perfect physical and mental attributes and longevity.

These Eternals did not wish to occupy the same planet as with this of their primitive “ancestors” so they decided to leave the planet earth and occupied a moon of Saturn now named Titan. It was here that a child was born to the Eternal, a child with purple skin who would take up the name of the Greek God of death Thanatos. This child grew up to be Thanos. His strength unrivaled and his intellect to match even the greatest of tacticians Thanos assumed command of not only Titan but the entirely of the dark quadrant, ruling with an iron fist.

This Titan was not all brawn, he had love in him too. But this is Thanos we are talking about, so the object of his love can’t be as simple as a female. No sir, the entity Thanos fell in love with was Lady Death herself, or rather the personification of death. Lady death convinced her estranged and powerful lover that the universe was out of balance and the balance of life needed to be restored to the universe, the only way to do so was by wiping out half the life in all of existence and only this act would win Thanos Death’s favor.

This is what instigated the Mad titan’s hunt for the infinity stones and he pursues of absolute strength and tyranny.

The Hulk

Bruce Banner is considered to be one of the top ten beings in the Marvel universe (both comic and apparently the MCU) in regard to his intelligence. This intelligence was the reason that Banner was chosen by the United States government to research a way to reforge the super soldier serum that gave Captain America his capabilities. Banner theorized that it was gamma radiation that held the key to creating the serum so he tried experimenting with the radiation. The gamma radiation did not provide Banner with the breakthrough he was hoping for. Rather a prolonged exposure to the radiation, both due to botched experimentation procedure and Banner’s past led to the radiation triggering and exposing something from within Banner.

The gamma radiation released the hulk, a creature of anger who dwell inside Bruce Banner could now be called to the outside giving Bruce Banner immense power, speed, and invulnerability only if Banner were to grow angry. A power triggered by emotion. When this concept was first introduced in the comics it took the audience by storm, to think that a docile human being like Doctor Bruce Banner could transform into a hulking mammoth with nearly limitless power gave the audience goosebumps and made for some great comic panels. This also coined the iconic phrase “You won’t like me when I’m angry” and for good measure because Dr. Banner’s anger now could lead to the destruction of cities if not entire countries.

The Incredible Hulk, as banner’s monster was to be called was not only a brute with unlimited strength but he also had dimensions to him that the fans were yet to understand. The power of hulk as immense as it was, was yet to meet an equal and just kept growing as banner became more and more infuriated. This was, in part, due to the experimentation conducted on Banner as a child. The hulk has limited logic understanding, he is just the manifestation of Banner’s anger and his innate need for destruction when he does get angry.

Death Battle (Hulk Vs Thanos In Comics)

Before proceeding to actual battle the limit and encounter of the individuals should. Be assessed and the fandom should be clear on as to what will determine the winner between the fighters. Neither the hulk nor the Mad Titan is averse to killing and hence the condition for victory will be complete destruction and annihilation for your opponent.

Also, it shall be noted that Thanks is not in the possession of any infinity stones and the fight is between the original mad titan without any augmentations and the incredible hulk. Although the hulk has many other transformations including the infamous World Breaker Hulk and Hulk’ Hulk Kluh. The main combatant in this fight will be the Jade giant himself and no one else. The idea being the determination of a true superior combatant in Hulk vs Thanos debate.

Although it seems that this is a battle of strength, it I actually a battle of fortitude between fighters. The hulk is a massive beast with a nigh unlimited strength that only grows as the battle drags on but the mad Titan himself has razed entire planets and solar systems and turned them to dust. Both parties hold immense feats to their name and yet it seems like the scales tip in Banner’s favor.

This giant is not just one monster and if the battle drags on more than what Thanos can reasonably bear he will never be able to take on the Hulk’s world breaker or Kluh versions. The Mad Titan has in fact won in many encounters between these two but each of these has been swift incapacitations by the mad Titan.

hulk vs thanos comics

What do you, the audience, think? Will the hulk really beat the tyrant of the dark quadrant if left to his own devices or will the Mad Titan beat the Jade giant to the ground? We might see the two clash in the upcoming Avengers 4 movie. The Titans battle for the control of infinity stones and by extension, the universe. This is a fight won by Thanos only if he is smart about it. For everything else marvel Hulk and Thanos, stick around.
