Avengers: Infinity War was the biggest and probably the best MCU movie ever. This was not your typical Marvel movie which is just a light-hearted fun adventure, but it was way more than that, having real stakes and consequences.
The movie was a complete package as it had emotion, drama, suspense, thrill, humor, sci-fi moments and hardcore action. Avengers: Infinity War ended in the most thrilling way possible and you would never have seen it coming and seeing the end we all had our jaws dropped on the floor. It truly had us biting our nails as if we were watching Game of Thrones (almost like Red Wedding).
It was a heist movie as defined by the Russos earlier, and Thanos along with the Black Order were on a wild McGuffin chase, where he had to acquire 6 McGuffins, the Infinity Stones scattered throughout the Galaxy. In the movie- Avengers: Infinity War, one McGuffin leads to the retrieval of the other, till Thanos reached the final living, walking McGuffin, Vision. Here’s what the Russos said about the film:
“With “Infinity War,” the biggest new element to the movie is Thanos and the fact that he’s entering the storytelling in a very bold, strong way, to the degree that he’s almost one of the leads. We’ve shaped an interesting narrative around him that in some ways leans heavily on a heist film in the fact that he’s going after the infinity stones in a much bolder, successful way than he has in the past. The entire movie has that energy of the bad guy being one step ahead of the heroes. We looked at a lot of movies that had that heist-style energy to them, and that brought some inspiration”.
He began with the Power Stone which was located on Xandar as we last saw it. Xandar was completely devastated as Thanos took the Infinity Stone from the Nova Corps, and this was only mentioned, not shown in the movie. Then, the movie opened with the Attack of Thanos on Thor’s ship where he appeared to retrieve the Space Stone. Loki practically gave him the Stone but he tried to do the right thing by making an attempt to kill Thanos, but in doing so he got caught and Thanos used the Power Stone to kill Loki.
Then, he left the ship and went straight to Knowhere using the Space Stone which he just recently got. At Knowhere, Thanos met with the Guardians who were there to retrieve the Reality Stone from The Collector. The Guardians attacked Thanos and Gamora managed to strike a killing blow against Thanos by stabbing him in the neck.
Then it was revealed that Thanos already has the stone, and this was an alternate reality set up by the Reality Stone which Thanos used as he was counting on Gamora’s arrival. Then Thanos caught her, and Drax tried to stop Thanos along with Mantis but both of them were converted into broken ribbons.
Gamora made Quill promise her that he would kill her if Thanos got hold of her. Quill tried to do that but using the Reality Stone, Thanos turned the laser beams from his Blasters into bubbles. Then he left with Gamora using the Space Stone, and they went to the Sanctuary. There he asked Gamora for the Soul Stone.
The Soul Stone was at Vormir. Thanos had previously sent Gamora on a mission to find the Soul Stone and she did, but she lied to Thanos about it. The Mad Titan soon realized Gamora is hiding something, so he captured Nebula (Gamora’s sister) and tortured her until she gave up the location to Thanos, and hence she took him there.
At Vormir, Red Skull was standing at the gates who told Thanos that he can have Soul stone only on one condition i.e he must sacrifice the soul of a person he has loved. Gamora mocked Thanos as according to her there is no one he has ever loved.
Well, the next you know Thanos sacrificed his loved daughter Gamora, the only person he loved in this universe to get the Soul Stone. Before Thanos killed Gamora, he stopped her from killing herself by turning her knife into more bubbles using the Reality Stone.
Then he returned to his home planet Titan using the Space Stone where he fought half the Guardians, Iron Man, Iron Spider, and Doctor Strange. The Guardians and team Iron Man were waiting for him over there as they tried to snatch the Gauntlet from him. Thanos landed a moon upon Avengers using the Space and Power Stone. He managed to beat them and he acquired the Time Stone from Doctor Strange over there, trading it for Tony’s life. Then he went to Wakanda using the Space Stone.
There he used the Power Stone against various Avengers. Then Scarlet Witch blasted off Vision and the Mind Stone along with him in front of Thanos, but the big guy reversed time using the Time Stone and retrieved the Mind Stone by crushing Vision’s head.
Then, came in the mighty God of Thunder with his brand new Axe Hammer, Stormbreaker also known as Jarnbjorn. His Axe was able to go through the power of the Infinity Gauntlet since it was made up of the energy that came out of the same dying star responsible for forging the Infinity Gauntlet.
He was able to strike at Thanos right in his heart and pinning the Mad Titan down, Thor told him that he will pay for all the Asgardian lives along with Loki’s. But, Thanos escapes telling Thor that he should have gone for the head instead, and while escaping he snapped his fingers that destroyed the Infinity Gauntlet but helped Thanos accomplish his mission.
Snapping his fingers allowed him to use the full power of all the Infinity Stones on the Gauntlet. The Mind Stone and the Soul Stone were not used explicitly, still, Thanos was able to wipe out half the population of the Universe, thus bringing balance to it. He went to meet Gamora in the Soul world, she asked him what it took, to which he replied “Everything”. The last scene had him enjoying the nice sunrise.
