There is no fun in watching a movie without any twists and turns. Even MCU has adapted the same way. In terms of MCU, it can keep the audience guessing till the next part is released. For example, 2008’s Iron Man had two twists in the tale. The first was Tony Stark revealing his superhero identity to the public. The second was an after-credits scene that set up the events of The Avengers. But a few twists in other movies and shows happened as expected by the viewers. Here are the MCU plot twists everyone anticipated:
1. The return of Bucky Barnes
The character of Bucky Barnes was at first introduced in Captain America: The First Avenger. He fell off a train and it looked like he died. When Steve Rogers woke up from his frozen state, he never expected that he would get to see Bucky again. But those who have read the comics knew that Bucky would return. The character was again seen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It was an expected twist. Now, Bucky Barnes is one of the most popular characters of MCU.
2. Agatha Harkness is a witch
Throughout the whole season, WandaVision was offering a lot of hints as to what was happening in the show. It kept the audience guessing towards the end. For the first 2-3 episodes, people were actually confused. One of the characters in the show was Agatha. WandaVision had a lot of hints to make us understand that she is actually the villain of the show. But MCU fans were sure about it before the revelation since Kathryn Hahn was such a big name. So, it is obvious that she is not a friendly neighbor of Wanda and Vision.
3. Sam gets the shield back
Steve Rogers gave his shield to Sam Wilson at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Fans were expecting that Sam might take on the mantle of Captain America. This happened only in the last episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and this also disappointed a few MCU fans. The Disney+ series showed us that somewhere for some reason Sam was not properly ready to take up the mantle. The show explored his character as Falcon. But it was obvious that he would take the mantle of Captain America at a point in time.
4. Someone else was the reason behind the Avengers fighting each other
In most of the films, we have seen that two heroes initially hate each other. But later they team up together to take down one common enemy. When Captain America: Civil War was about to be released, MCU fans knew that someone else was the reason behind the Avengers fighting each other. This turned out to be true and the person was Helmut Zemo. He was taking his revenge against the Avengers for losing his family in Sokovia as a result of the Avengers’ battle against Ultron.
5. Avengers undo the Snap
MCU planned a lot to bring the Avengers and Thanos in a final showdown. Thanos snapped away half of the living beings in the universe in Avengers: Infinity War. It was an iconic moment. But MCU fans knew that this will be undone. Moreover, Marvel will never kill its characters permanently. The Avengers actually reversed the Snap and brought back those people including their own team members who were disintegrated as a result of the Snap.
6. The Death of Pietro Maximoff
The X-Men characters were never used in Marvel movies. However, this thing was different for Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. Scarlet Witch was never seen in any X-Men movie. But Quicksilver has appeared in the X-Men franchise. When they were introduced in MCU, fans thought it will be confusing for both studios to have Quicksilver as a recurring character. This meant that the MCU version will not exist for long. Marketing shots of Avengers: Age of Ultron saw Wanda grieving. This ensured the fate of Pietro Maximoff in MCU.
7. Loki is Alive
We have seen a few MCU characters dying on the screen. The same has also happened in the comics. Loki faked his death in Thor: The Dark World. MCU fans thought that maybe the character is dead after he was killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. But Loki’s alternate version managed to get the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame. This created a new timeline. The character will be seen again in MCU in the upcoming Disney+ series Loki.
8. Karl Mordo turned out to be evil
According to the comics, Karl Mordo is a jealous and greedy sorcerer. He trained himself under Ancient One and later betrayed her and Doctor Strange. Those who have not read the comics were not aware of his real face. This is what left the audience shocked in the post-credits scene of Doctor Strange. But MCU fans knew that he would show his real face at a point in time. Now there is a possibility that he might be seen as the main villain in Doctor Strange 2.
9. Quentin Beck is the Villain
Mysterio has been seen as a villain in Spider-Man comics since the 1960s. So fans were suspicious when he appeared in Spider-Man: Far From Home. His character was shown in such a way that people actually believed him to be a good man. But later it was revealed that he is actually the villain. He was using drones and holograms to fake the events and show himself as a superhero. This offered a big twist to the film. And there was more. Beck revealed the identity of Spider-Man to the whole world and framed him for his murder.
10. Jude Law is the villain
MCU always casts a popular actor in a supporting role. But that actor is later revealed as the villain of the film. This is exactly what happened in Captain Marvel. Jude Law’s identity was not revealed before the release of the film. Many MCU fans theorized that he is the villain of the film. Well, this turned out to be true. Jude Law was revealed as a Kree commander and follower of the Supreme Intelligence who killed Mar-Vell.
