Captain Marvel is the most powerful superhero that the MCU is going to put out next year (possibly this year if she shows up in Infinity War). The Captain Marvel powers and abilities that we will see in the MCU are going to be even more epic than her comic counterpart. The famous actress Brie Larson is going to play this iconic female superhero in the MCU.
If there is one person who is really excited about bringing Captain Marvel to life, it’s none other than Marvel head Kevin Feige himself. He never misses an opportunity to talk about Captain Marvel’s entry into the MCU. Here is what he said in an interview:
“With Captain Marvel, there’s so much potential in the comics and there have been so many incarnations of her powers and the characters who’ve had that mantle that we’ve been focusing in on exactly how do we tell her origin. How does it fit into the cosmic side of our universe? How does it fit into what we’re doing with the next Avengers movies? So really, that’s what’s been working on this particular moment.”
“All of the Marvel characters have flaws to them, all of them have a deep humanity to them. With Captain Marvel, she is as powerful a character as we’ve ever put in a movie. Her powers are off the charts, and when she’s introduced, she will be by far the strongest character we’ve ever had. If you had the collector cards of the Marvel characters and you could see the power levels, she would be off the charts compared to anyone that we’ve previously introduced in a film. It’s important, then, to counterbalance that with someone who feels real. She needs to have a humanity to tap into, and Brie can do that.”
When Feige was asked as to why Brie Larson is the right fit for the role, he said this:
“With Captain Marvel, who has powers that approach a level that we haven’t seen before in our films, you need to counter-balance that by finding somebody who is also very human and very relatable and can get into a groove with the audience, where they’re willing to see her fly through the sun and punch a moon away from a spacecraft. At the same time, we need her to land and have relatable flaws.”
Here are Captain Marvel powers and abilities that will surely come really handy against Thanos:
Her Seventh Sense
Well, it is just like Spider-Man’s trademark power, the Spider-sense, which is capable of warning him about incoming danger, it makes him nearly impossible to hit for his opponents. So, similar to that, Captain Marvel’s seventh sense is a precognitive ability, which allows her to subconsciously recognize danger even before it occurs, and even predict an enemy’s attacks even before they make them.
Insanely Strong Energy Blasts
Well, this is the most popular power people relate her with as it is one of her most common attacks. They are photon blasts made up of cosmic energy, which make their power levels way higher than the repulsor and unibeam blasts that Iron Man shoots. The power level of these blasts increases when she goes binary.
She Goes Binary!
Captain Marvel’s transforms into her ultimate form which is called Binary. This allows her to reach her peak strength and go even beyond that. The level of her strength in Binary cannot be calculated practically and all her attacks and abilities that she possesses become even stronger. She even gains a wider range of abilities too.
Galactus is her back up!
Well, this may not be counted as an ability technically, but she can take down anyone using this trump card. Well, what else are you going to need when you have possibly the strongest being in the entire Marvel Universe backing you up?
She possesses cosmic awareness
Well, along with her seventh sense, she also has the ability to know what is going on in the cosmos, which is known as cosmic awareness. She is able to be well prepared for a battle that is headed her way from the cosmos. This is something which makes her the best chance that Team Avengers may have to beat Thanos and his Black Order as she would have a better understanding being a cosmic creature how to respond to a threat like that.
Well, she doesn’t only come in handy with her offense as she has great defending abilities as well. This is one of her key powers as she can absorb any form of energy which is directed towards her. Iron Man’s repulsor rays will have absolutely no effect on her and not even Thor’s thunder attacks will inflict any sort of damage as she would absorb that and counter-attack with an even stronger energy blast.
By now, we know that Captain Marvel is extremely powerful and even Superman cannot beat her. One of her insane powers is that she can control Gravity. This would come in handy in every fight she is put into as even though many opponents have the ability to fly and defy gravity, such a strong control of gravity to surround them would hold them for a few seconds and that will allow Captain Marvel to make her attack and get the advantage over her opponents.
Skilled pilot and hand to hand combatant
Even without her powers, Carol Danvers can hold her on against any Non-super powered individual, as she is a very skilled and trained fighter, and one of the best pilots we could ever find. She can fly any aircraft easily and very effectively.
Light Speed and Immense Strength
Well, this should not come as any big surprise that Captain Marvel possesses superhuman strength, stamina, and durability. Also, she has the ability to fly at supersonic speeds roughly 6 times faster than the Speed of Sound. In her Binary form, her strength and flying ability get amplified which allows her to go even faster than the light-speed.
Can Survive in Space and Vacuum
Her Superhuman abilities allow her to survive in Space without any oxygen, but she loses her powers during that time. Her temporary Binary form allows her to eve retain her powers in the vacuum of Space, so she will be the strongest Avenger when she shows up in Avengers 4. Having her on their side, the Avengers would surely be able to take Thanos down once and for all.
She may not be as popular as Wonder Woman but she is definitely equivalent to her, sometimes she can even beat her with piercing weapons which is Diana’s only weakness. In comics, she can do it all from super speed to precognition, energy absorption & blasts to rapid healing. She has a Kree physiology with incredible pieces of alien tech embedded in her suit that literally makes her ‘Iron-woman in space’. She is a military officer, spy, pilot and an alien superhero all rolled into one.
She can single-handedly overpower all of the Avengers if she wants to, so she is the only one in the MCU who can take on Thanos. It would be really interesting to see how she is used in Avengers 4 and where she go from there. What fans are expecting is when Avengers and Guardians have lost all hope of saving the world from Mad Titan, she would come to their rescue and heroically defeat the cosmic supervillain and his Black Order. How epic would that be? Post-Avengers 4, she is expected to take the mantle of leadership and lead ‘New Avengers’ as new threats loom large on human civilization.
