New Iron Man Designs Revealed With Hundreds More To Come

In 2008, it all started with the smashing success of the movie Iron Man which dazzled the audiences with its action and charm. It was a clear signal to Marvel that fans are ready for an elaborate MCU. The Iron Man trilogy has been a huge success making over $2 Billion at the box-office. It’s been a decade now and MCU is reaching to its culmination of everything that has happened till now.

Robert Downey Jr. aka Tony Stark has made a total seven appearances in MCU movies that include Iron Man (2008), Iron Man 2 (2010), The Avengers (2012), Iron Man 3 (2013), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), and Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) as well as a cameo in Incredible Hulk (2008). He will now be seen reprising the iconic character of Iron Man in a never before seen avatar.

Iron Man has evolved the most in the MCU and the fans have loved every new upgrade Tony puts in his suits. He used Mark 1 that he built in a cave to fight terrorists in Afghanistan. He saved the day in ‘The Avengers’ by carrying the nuke on his shoulders and going to outer space and barely making it out alive. In Iron Man- 3, Tony Stark could literally be at two places at once, thanks to Mark 42, he was simultaneously tracking both Pepper and President of the United States of America.

Iron Man has gone through scores of armors in his lifetime, some of them were tailor-made for special circumstances or for fighting against a uniquely dangerous enemy. It’s customary and also pretty logical that Iron Man will need a major upgrade as he will be facing the most formidable adversary he has ever come across i.e Thanos. There has been speculation about possible Iron Man armors that can be featured in Infinity War.

Finally, Iron Man has reached the level of the Bleeding Edge Armor in the MCU, and this new armor fits entirely in his Arc Reactor. It has weapons that we have not seen till now, as it has got the wing like boosters that allow him to go supersonic in space, and it has new plasma canons added in place of the repulsor ray blasters that he has. Along with these, the suit has many more abilities which we are going to find out in the upcoming movie.

Iron Man suits have a huge range in their types and abilities. Including the War Machine suits and the 2 Hulkbusters, we will have seen 53 different Iron Man suits till Infinity War. most of these Suits were shown in Iron Man 3, but after that movie, the suits really started to go even bigger, better, and have more abilities. Well, in the comics, we have even more kinds of suits that Tony Stark has made.

Over the years, Iron Man’s suits have had major upgrades in terms of design and technology. In fact, once Tony Stark was given the power to forge weapons using Asgardian metallic resources. He dedicated himself to learn about Uru (the chief material) and forged 8 weapons from the materials, later infused his Extremis armor with the divine will of Odin, which is the same stuff used to make Thor’s hammer Mjolnir.

Marvel has recently had yet another comic relaunch telling the entire story of the Marvel comics once again. This has allowed the mechanic Tony Stark to come back from the dead and be ready to build more suits for us to witness during his upcoming adventures. Brian Michael Bendis has crafted the suits of Tony Stark for years, and now he is writing Superman for DC. So, in the wake of his departure, Marvel has given the responsibility of Iron Man to Spider-Man writer Dan Slott who will kick off a whole new series of adventures for the hero.

Well, many fans are not as thrilled to see yet another comic book relaunch happening in Marvel, but some of the new titles following the story arcs of the heroes that have come into the light so far seem really interesting and fantastic, so we can be optimistic and expect really cool stories to follow. Well, since Iron Man is coming back, we can expect a vast range of new Suit designs to come in, designed by Dan Slott.

There are around 9 new concept designs for Iron Man’s upcoming suits that have been released till now. These designs are credited to Slott and Valerio Schiti. These armors crafted by the two artists are actually meant to serve different purposes. Also, these designs seem to give Iron Man a new direction from the basic design of his suit in the old comics and even in the movies as well. One or two suits seem a little similar and retconned, rest every other design looks totally new and fascinating.

These suits in some cases seem like Exo-suits that Iron Man’s original suit will fit in, like the Hulkbuster armor we have seen in the movies. They even move away from Iron Man’s original color pattern. This was explored in Iron Man 3 as we saw suits of different color patterns from the usual, but, these new designs have gone even further than that.

Dan Slott told us in an interview, that what the fans could expect from the newly launched comics, and new Iron Man armors. Here’s what he said:

“One of the things we’re doing in the book is that for the most part there is no one set Iron Man armor. If you’re Tony Stark you can build whatever you want. So why not have a different suit for the different problems you’re facing? Are we going to have a base suit? Yes, because he has to appear over in Avengers and have a consistent look. But when you’re in Tony Stark: Iron Man, though, Valerio is going to have complete freedom to go crazy with all kinds of new armors! We’re taking this toy chest — and we’ve decided it’s not big enough! We’re building extensions!”

Well, Iron Man’s future in the MCU is uncertain since Robert Downey Jr.’s contract will be exhausted after Avengers 4, so if he does not die in Avengers 4, then we could see a little more of RDJ in the future, since these comics which are being relaunched are also loosely related to the events occurring in the movies as well.

Avengers Infinity War

Some of these designs and suits will be on display in the upcoming Avengers Infinity War, directed by Russo brothers and produced by Marvel head Kevin Feige. The screenplay is written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The movie will be released worldwide on April 27, 2018.

Here is the official synopsis that Marvel released and read as:

“As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain”.

“An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe”.

“Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet — the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artifacts to inflict his twisted will on reality. The fate of the planet and existence itself has never been more uncertain as everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment”.
