Zack Snyder Reveals Why Superman Is Evil In BvS Knightmare Sequence

Batman v Superman was touted to be the mother of all battles and it really was for millions of DC comic-book nerds who were waiting for this dream of their come alive. But alas the fight was over before it even started and don’t even ask why (wink…wink..Martha). It was a betrayal of sorts for many who reposed their faith in WB to be able to do justice to these iconic superhero characters that DC fans have practically grown up with.

The movie promised to expand the horizons of DCEU but instead, it derailed the shared universe as it was more a Batman movie when it was supposed to be a follow-up to Man of Steel. The silver lining was Ben Affleck’s Batman who did a reasonable job but two major characters i.e Superman and Lex Luthor were totally botched up. It claimed to adopt the iconic graphic novel of Frank Miller titled ‘Dark Knight Returns’ but it could only manage to bring its imagery to life, not the spirit. As a result, the movie’s box office collections were way below expectations given the hype surrounding it. Here is what Henry Cavill aka Man of Steel said:

“There was a style they were going for, an attempt to be different and look at things from a slightly different perspective, which hasn’t necessarily worked.”

“Yes, it has made money but it has not been a critical success; it hasn’t given everyone that sensation which superheroes should give the viewer. “I feel like now the right mistakes have been made and they haven’t been pandered [to], and we can start telling the stories in the way they need to be told. It is even better to come back from a mistake or stylistic error into the correct vein because it will make it seem that much stronger. Wonder Woman was the first step in the right direction.”

But it can’t be treated as Snyder’s failure. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition was what Zack Snyder had intended for us to see at the theatres, but the editors of WB ruined the movie in a major way by removing the key plot points of the movie in order to get the movie’s total runtime down and ultimately earn more at the Box Office with an extra screening at the theatres. Justice League faced a similar situation than what BvS did but this time things were different as we did not get to see Snyder’s vision come true.

Almost a month back, things started to unravel about Zack Snyder’s departure from Justice League, as many reports claimed that Zack Snyder was fired from the movie way before his daughter’s tragic death, and WB used that incident to cover it all up.

So, the movie was bound to bomb as there was a lot happening behind the scenes. Zack Snyder’s silence actually proves it all right as he denied doing any sort of press tours or interviews for the movie and he even supported the petition for releasing the Snyder Cut. He still wants fans to believe in the Snyder Cut even though we may never get to see it.

WB meddled a lot with the movie, as they got Joss Whedon to make the movie they actually wanted out of Snyder’s existing vision. Even though the movie did not do as well as expected, it was certainly a step in the right direction it did have heart and humor, and it got all its character interactions right.

But due to the changes that WB ordered on Snyder’s vision in order to bring the movie down to 2 hours or less, a lot of material that we saw in the trailers was either re-shot or removed entirely in order to make it suit more to the shorter time span.

Zack Snyder was setting everything for Justice League 2, BvS and Justice League were plotting the ultimate story for Justice League 2, as it was a movie on the DC movies upcoming roster, but since Snyder left, the movie has been completely removed from the slate.

There were many things that were unexplained in BvS, as fans expected that it was a plot that would be related to Justice League or Justice League 2. But, since Whedon was asked to alter many things and change the narrative of Justice League after Snyder’s departure and that flushed out many details that BvS plotted.

Snyder would have had connections with BvS hidden in Justice League, but after the edited version of Whedon, many aspects of the movie felt that it totally ignored what happened in BvS. He had it all worked out but due to studio politics and major creative disagreements, all efforts of Snyder’s team went down the river.

The biggest question mark that loomed in the fans of the viewers after they saw was the Knightmare Sequence and Flash coming back in time. Snyder recently confirmed to a fan on the Vero app that Flash coming back in time was totally “Real” and he warned Bruce about Superman and told him that Lois was the key to everything in the future. Right before that came the Knightmare sequence which confused fans a lot.

The scene was set in a completely deserted area and we could see Darkseid’s Omega symbol on the ground. Bruce and his allies were plotting against Superman and possibly forming an alliance to save the planet from the threat of Darkseid. Fans went crazy when they saw Superman fly in and killing Batman as he blames him for Lois’ death, and then came in the warning from the Flash.

This scene explicitly portrayed Superman being evil and now Zack Snyder has come out and revealed that why Superman is evil in this sequence. He teases in this particular Vero reply that Superman would have blamed Bruce for Lois’ death and the Bruce Wayne from the present would know nothing about that.

He also teased the anti-life equation in this particular reply as well, because we know that Darkseid was going to be there in Justice League 2 and the anti-life equation from the comics is a big part of why Darkseid is interested in Earth. But the entire Dark Seid plot was put on the back burner and Steppenwolf was pushed to the center stage in the Justice League. He proved to be pretty weak sauce villain for JL and fans were left helpless.

As fans predicted earlier, this was a tie-in with the Injustice storyline where Superman went rogue after the death of Lois Lane at the hands of the Joker. In this scenario, Lois would have died due to something that Bruce would have done in the future even though it would not be his fault, but Sups would have blamed him, and in order to bring order to this planet, he would become the evil tyrant the Injustice Storyline so significantly personified.

Unfortunately, Snyder was removed because his vision was too dark for the viewers, but it was totally different for the Superhero genre, and it was totally different from what the MCU is doing, which should have been praised, but instead, we will never see the plot planned for DCEU come through.

For now, Aquaman is scheduled to come out on December 21, 2018; Shazam! will open on April 5, 2019; and Wonder Woman 2 will hit the theatres on November 1, 2019. And if you still haven’t seen Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate edition, do pick a copy and we promise you that you would love it.

Here is the official synopsis of the movie released by DC Entertainment and WB:

“It’s been nearly two years since Superman’s (Henry Cavill) colossal battle with Zod (Michael Shannon) devastated the city of Metropolis. The loss of life and collateral damage left many feeling angry and helpless, including crime-fighting billionaire Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck). Convinced that Superman is now a threat to humanity, Batman embarks on a personal vendetta to end his reign on Earth, while the conniving Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) launches his own crusade against the Man of Steel”.
