10 Recent 2021 Movies That Proved To Be Much Better Than Expected

The last year has been a massive downer for most movies and productions. With productions having been shut down due to the pandemic a lot of projects had to face massive delays. These delays have proven to be a major issue for some movies as they were forced to either release online via streaming service or delay their releases. Let’s take a look at some of these recent 2021 movies that proved to be better than they were expected.

A Quiet Place II

The sequel to the 2018 horror masterpiece A Quiet Place proved to be a massive success. With hardly any successful horror movies coming out during this period, this sequel peaked the expectations of the audience. Other than directing, this time the script was also written entirely by John Krasinski himself. Yet, the movie gave us just the right amount of adrenaline rush with its performances and at times even fared better than the original. The movie is certified fresh with a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Green Knight

This was amongst the movies that had to get a delayed release with the trailer being released more than a year before its release. This David Lowery epic had kept everyone hyped with its heavy acting cast and extraordinary visual style. It’s a good thing that the movie was not released online as that would have ruined the effect it would have generated on the big screen. With Dev Patel playing the lead this movie presently holds a certified fresh position on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 87%.

In The Heights

Recent 2021 Movies

Musicals hardly come out anymore. The last musical that really made a massive impact was La La Land from 2016. In The Heights is also an adaptation of the stage play by the same title. Adapting such a project can have many consequences with the last such example being the failure of Cats. There was some hope with the project based on the success of the director’s previous project Crazy Rich Asians and the involvement of the talents of Lin Manuel Miranda in the project. This movie holds a certified fresh title on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 95%.

Free Guy

Ryan Reynolds has proven to be a massive success in the box office with his projects including his sense of humor and awesome performance. But the genre of this movie was something that has been explored a lot recently. The theme of game-based movies has seen both sides of the critical response. While some have become cult classics others didn’t gather the same response. But to our surprise, this movie held more than there was expected with fun nods to gaming events and references that kept the audience hooked. This fun ride proved to be a massive success amongst both the audience and the critics. Free Guy is Rotten Tomatoes fresh with an 85% score.

Godzilla Vs. Kong

The Monsterverse movies haven’t really had an exceptional record when it comes to their critical response. The last movie, Godzilla: King of Monsters being defined as a mess of plots one could hardly care for over the battle between the giants. The underlying plots hardly worked for these movies and the audience only care for the fight between the titans. This attempt in the franchise tried to bring two of the biggest characters from this world i.e. Godzilla and King Kong. While the movie also provided us more than that to explore, we actually got to see a satisfactory outcome to the ultimate battle. The movie is certified fresh with a 75% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Pig

Nicholas Cage has had his share of video-on-demand movies that have hardly made any news. Yet here and there he has been able to give us a performance and a movie worth expecting more from him. This movie was one such movie with what is being regarded as one of his greatest performances. The movie is certified fresh with a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Suicide Squad

Recent 2021 Movies

What can be said about The Suicide Squad that hasn’t already been said. The previous rendition of Suicide Squad and the DCEU movies had us worried this would be another fluke. James Gunn proved us wrong with his brilliant approach to the movie and a much better look at the characters and a much better plot. The movie is certified fresh with a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Mitchells Vs. The Machines

Animated movies have had various releases throughout the years but the trailer for this one looked like another attempt at something offbeat. While it was another attempt at something offbeat, it was a good attempt at that. It was one of the best uses of the animated medium for carrying such a story to absolute success. This family fun ride proved to be a massive success with both the audience and the critics. The movie is certified fresh with a 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Nobody

With everyone attempting their own version of John Wick-like movies this was considered to be another such example. The fans were surprised by the idea of how this movie used a similar structure and concept and yet made it look like a fresh jab at the genre. The action-packed performance by Bob Odenkirk proved to be a massive success amongst the fans of such action extravaganza rides. The movie is certified fresh with an 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League

With the last Justice League being an absolute failure, not much was expected to have been improved on this movie considering the same director had helmed Batman Vs. Superman. The massive fan response behind the movie generated a fear of what if it ended up being a failure. But Snyder surprised us with his unique vision regarding the characters. There was enough new material in the movie to get rid of the mess its previous rendition had made. The movie is amongst the top-rated DCEU movies with a 71% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
