Located in the Tondaimandalam region of the state of Tamil Nadu lies the small town of Kanchipuram. Also known as Kanchi or Kancheepuram, the town is well known for its beautiful silk sarees and the grand monuments and ruins that dot the town. There are numerous places to visit in Kanchipuram that take you back on the memory lane.
- Kamakshi Amman Temple: Dedicated to Goddess Kamakshi, an incarnation of Parvati and the goddess of love, fertility and strength. The temple is a very popular destination for pilgrims and devotees from all over the country.
- Devarajaswami Temple: Dedicated to Lord Vishnu and built by the rulers of the Vijayanagar Empire, the temple has some magnificent engraved pillars that are ornamented. It contains a marriage hall to commemorate the marriage of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. The temple also has a water tank with a 10 meter high statue of Lord Vishnu which can be seen when the tank is drained every 40 years.
- Kanchi Kailasanathar Temple: Considered to be one of the oldest temples dedicated to Lord Shiva in the town of Kanchipuram, the temple is an excellent example of Dravidian style of architecture.
- Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam: According to the Panch Bhuta Sthala principle of Hinduism, Kanchipuram represents Eart, Chidambaram represents the sky, Thiruvannamalai represents Fire, Thiruvanakoil represents water and Kalahasti represents Air. The Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam is located in Kanchipuram and is a monastic institution for the Hindus. It was established in 482 BC by Adi Shankaracharya to safeguard Veda Dharma and propagate Advaita discipline.

Kanchipuram is situated on the banks of River Vegavathy and has been witness to the reigns of various rulers and kingdoms.
