Facts About Nova Force:
The Nova Force is the all-powerful energy source that is the crux of the intergalactic peacekeeping force called the Nova Corps. It is the same Nova Corps that Richard Rider and Sam Alexander belong to. The Nova Force, for long, is mysterious and enigmatic. The casual moviegoers have no idea what it means and some would even struggle to know the concept. With Nova all but confirmed to be a part of the future Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is time we learn what is necessary to learn in order to keep up.
1. It is a limitless source of energy
The planet of Xandar was the first to discover the energy source called the Nova Force. While they did go extinct and had to merge their consciousness into a single, all-knowing entity called the Worldmind, their access to the Nova Force remained intact. In fact, as the Worldmind, their command over the Nova Force grew only stronger with time. No one really knows if the Nova Force could actually be exhausted. Scientists and researchers who studied the Nova Force have confirmed that it is somehow related to the fundamental force of gravity. So as long as there is a universe with gravity in it, there will always be a Nova Force.
2. The story of Nova Prime
The Nova Force may be unlimited in nature. But the degree of allocation is completely controlled by the Xandarian Worldmind. Each member of the Nova Corps gets access to a certain amount of the Nova Force. And there is a valid reason for it. Gaining control over a near-limitless source of energy is pretty much the same as becoming a God. And the Worldmind knows that Power Corrupts and Absolute Power Corrupts absolutely. The only person who was actually given the key to control the entirety of the Nova Force is Richard Rider. Another being called the Garthan Saal also tried to do the same but it drove him insane.
3. The Power varies
Each member of the Nova Corps who gains access to the Nova Force is allotted a certain set of abilities. But each member also tends to have several unique abilities based on the writer and the issue you are reading. The set of superpowers that are common to each Nova Force user are the ability to control gravitational fields and the power to fly at super-sonic speeds, and sustain him-self or her-self in the vacuum of space unaided. Nova can also use the Nova Force to absorb near-limitless amounts of energy and reproject it back at whoever he wants to. In some issues, Nova also gained the ability of super strength and a regenerative healing factor.
4. The Xandarian Worldmind
The Xandarian Worldmind was a sentient supercomputer that is presumed to be the work of merging the consciousness of all the Xandarians together into a framework of a supercomputer of Xandarian design. The fact that an omnipotent computer makes sense when you realize that there must be a logical order to things as to how to let members of a peace-keeping police force get access to an all-powerful energy source. The Worldmind takes into account the whole set of traits and skills of each Nova Corps member. It not only understands the Nova Force deeply but also knows how to distribute it in an equivalent manner.
5. They defy the laws of physics
The Nova Force, amongst the various abilities it grants to its users, also allows one to travel the universe in split seconds. We are not even joking. Nova can travel to the corners of the universe using an as of yet realistically unproved celestial object called Wormholes. Wormholes are essentially where space and time converge to create a shortcut through two points in the universe. To survive a wormhole you need to have tremendous amounts of invulnerability. The Nova Force not only allows the creation of wormholes but the ability to survive the tremendous pressures of the insides of a wormhole.
6. Trapped inside the Cancer-Verse
The Cancer-Verse is another alternate universe which is unlike any other reality to have been ever witnessed throughout the Multi-Verse. In the Cancer-Verse, death has lost all meaning. In this universe, no one is ever allowed to die and as a result, each and every being, no matter how old or senile, keep on living even after their bodies turn into living husks. In the storyline titled The Thanos Imperative, Nova took the entirety of the nova Force as well as the Worldmind into the cancer-verse in order to stop that universe from destroying our universe through a rift in the space-time continuum. The Nova Force was trapped inside the cancer-verse and died a slow, painful death when the rift closed before it could make it back to home in time.
7. Unspoken powers that are never mentioned
There is always a basic set of abilities – flight, energy manipulation, and super strength. But people fail to notice some glaring abilities that are never truly explained in the comic books. To begin with – every Nova Corps member is automatically granted the power to survive in space. Then there is also the fact that Nova does not need food or air or even water to survive outside an atmosphere. While this ability turns out to be very handy when Nova is carrying out a longer duration mission, it only confuses the fans a lot since none of those abilities are explained in detail or even mentioned anywhere else.
8. It can be corrupted
The Nova Force has recently returned from the Cancer-Verse after the events of The Thanos Imperative trapped it there along with Richard Rider and the Xandarian Worldmind. The Cancer-Verse is a very polluted and corrupted place. Nothing pure actually stays pure in there. The Nova Force is no exception. Maybe the force did not actually die in that universe but it has still changed a lot. The effects are not as visibly prominent but with time, the actual damage will be shown in full light.
9. A Huge flaw in how it is portrayed
Each energy source in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has a specific color code and signature. So does the nova Force. But unlike other energy sources, the Nova Force has not one but two colors. And the color portrayal has varied every time a new writer, creator or lead artist joined the fray. The two colors of the Nova Force are – Golden and Blue. It has been really difficult to decide which is actually more related to the Nova Force and the comic books have done zero efforts to differentiate in that area as well.
10. When the Worldmind screwed up Big Time
For an intergalactic peacekeeping force, the Nova Corps sure has seen its fair share of faltering. After the last time the Nova Corps’ ranks depleted to the point that there was barely a team left, the Worldmind started a mass recruitment drive with very low standards and benchmarks. This swelled up the ranks of the Corps several times but there was one major flaw in its actions. Since a lot of the members recruited were inexperienced, the nova Corps suffered a massive defeat and yet another one of those genocides of the entire corps was undertaken by yet another cosmic supervillain.
