MCU Theory: The Next Captain America Might Get His Powers from Wakanda
Chris Evans is officially done with the role of Captain America, and he recently bid farewell to the fans and to the character that has given him so much in life. Just imagine those times when he was afraid to take on the massive 9 movie deal. He refused to take the role multiple times and it just kept coming back to him. At last, he got a personal call from Robert Downey Jr. which helped him in the decision of accepting the role. Here’s what he wrote after the last day of shooting Avengers 4 reshoots.
“Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.”
But the mantle of Captain America is too big to be retired. Both Iron Man and Captain America are not expected to walk out of Avengers 4 alive. Marvel may kill the character, but they should not kill their mantles. Captain America more so has two individuals in place who could take on his mantle for the upcoming Phases of the MCU. They are obviously Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
It will be interesting to see whether Marvel decides to pass the mantle of Captain America after Steve Rogers is out of the picture. It has been made obvious that we will have a new Captain from now on in the form of Captain Marvel. But we would like it if the mantle of Captain America continues as well. The Winter Soldier has been recently given the new title of The White Wolf. Sebastian Stan still has multiple movies left on his contract so we could expect him to continue as the White Wolf instead of getting the SHIELD.
Marvel could try Sam Wilson as their next Captain America as it would give Falcon a sense of belongingness and an opportunity to become something bigger in the MCU post-Avengers 4. But the problem with him would be that unlike Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes, he is not a Super Soldier. He has been quite remarkable and a total badass as Falcon, giving the likes of Iron Man a good fight, kicking Helicopters, going against Corvus Glaive & Proxima Midnight, shooting a bunch of mindless outriders and also taking down henchmen with ease. He did not require superhuman strength to do that all. Just a smart-talking mouth and his skills with the Glider were sufficient for that.
But to become Captain America, he may need a little more than that. Obviously carrying the mantle doesn’t just mean having the power of the Super Soldier Serum. You need to be having the right intent. A little guy from Brooklyn with the righteous intent was the specialty of the character and that is why he deserved the enhanced abilities.
So, if Falcon is going to be the next Cap, he may need the enhanced abilities as well. But how do you get the Super Soldier experiment right once again? It was Dr. Erskine during World War II who perfected the serum with the help of Howard Stark. He had failed once and that gave this Universe the Stone Keeper Red Skull. Other than him, the Super Soldier experiment has failed twice as both Hulk and Abomination are also results of those failed experiments. So what is the solution to give Sam Wilson the powers that he needs and maybe even deserves to become the next Captain America?
There is a theory that suggests that the reason why the Super Soldier experiment was successful with Rogers because there was a connection with Wakanda. The theory suggests that Rogers was the only perfected result because Howard Stark was somehow able to acquire the Heart Shaped Herb along with the Vibranium. This theory could work in the MCU because you can’t say that T’Challa’s enhanced abilities are not similar to Steve Rogers.
So, what if Wakandan technology and the regrowth of the Heart Shaped Herb help in giving Sam the powers of a Super Soldier. The Herb is believed to be a stabilizing agent to what the Super Soldier Serum provides. That is why Steve did not turn out to be as violent as other Hydra Agents or the Hulk, or even Red Skull. So, we could summarize the fact that Wakanda could somehow come in handy for giving us our future Captain America in the name of Sam Wilson!
