Sony’s Kraven Casts Fred Hechinger as Chameleon

We got one of our best Spider-Man movies with last year’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. The movie used the concept of Multiverse to bring some of the favorite characters in the history of Spider-Man together. Another interesting thing in the movie was the presence of Tom Hardy’s Venom which indicated that we might get to see them come across each other in the near future. Sony’s Spider-Man Universe will continue to expand on their projects based on the character set around the friendly neighborhood superhero. With Morbius set to release soon another project based on Kraven is also under development. It seems that Kraven has added actor Fred Hechinger as Chameleon for the movie.

Kraven

Even though the Spider-Man Universe movies from Sony haven’t received a good critical reception yet, the fans seem to enjoy them. With the confirmation that we will get to see Spider-Man appear in these movies, it would make sense that they are continuing to expand on the franchise. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe works on a fresh start for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man we are going to get a lot of interesting additions to Sony’s franchise. One of the most exciting additions to these is the upcoming Kraven movie and there’s a lot of hype set around the movie.

With the amount of secrecy for the project, the hype is only increasing for the movie. For a while, the only thing that was known about the movie included the fact that Aaron Taylor-Johnson will be taking on the role of the titular character. It’s an interesting concept considering Kraven hasn’t seen a live-action depiction yet even though it is one of the most renowned Spider-Man villains. Earlier this year, it was announced that Russell Crowe has joined the cast for the movie in an undisclosed role. But now we have more detail considering another actor has joined the project as another villain.

Fred Hechinger Joins Kraven Movie

Deadline reported that The White Lotus star Fred Hechinger has joined the cast of the Kraven The Hunter as Chameleon. Dmitri Smerdyakov is actually the half-brother of Kraven himself. Even though Kraven is quite popular when it comes to Spider-Man’s rogue’s gallery, Chameleon has a name of his own. With the ability to mimic any person, this villain has managed to be someone that has challenged Spider-Man quite often. The appearance of this character in the movie might indicate that we will get to see an origin story for the titular character.

It was rumored that the movie will be featuring a lot of Kraven’s family and that might mean that it will be a more family-oriented narrative. Just like the other movies in this franchise, we can expect Kraven the Hunter to start as an origin story. This story could lead to him being established as an anti-hero who might later appear as a significant character in the other Sony projects. The production for the movie is set to begin soon and we might get to hear a lot more about the casting details for the movie. With this level of expansion, we probably won’t have to wait long for some of the most exciting crossover events in the franchise.

We are going to get another look at Sony’s Spider-Man Universe with Morbius set to come out soon. This entry might give us a bit more idea regarding the status of the MCU and Sony’s universe and how they are crossing over. There is much confusion regarding the character of the Vulture as Michael Keaton was seen appearing in both the universes. Morbius will be released on April 1.

With J.C. Chandor at the helm, Kraven will have its premiere on January 13, 2023.
