How Old Is Hawkeye In The MCU? EXPLAINED…

Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, has been a spy, a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and one of the founding members of the Avengers Initiative. Unlike other characters, his age has never been specified or even hinted at. However, the latest episode of Disney+’s Hawkeye might have given us a vague idea of how old Hawkeye is in the MCU. Bare with us and find out.

Disney+’s latest miniseries Hawkeye features Clint Barton trying to make it to his family as his past catches up to him. And if there weren’t enough problems, he takes up a mentee, Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld). Hawkeye is one of the oldest characters of the MCU, debuting in 2011’s Thor. And since then many fans have repeatedly tried to predict his age. But since his age is unknown, even in the source material, predicting his MCU-age was almost impossible. Until now!

The third episode of the Disney+ miniseries sees Hawkeye revealing an important detail about his career. After escaping from the Tracksuit Mafia and Echo in an intense one-take car-chase scene, Clint and Kate share some of the most wholesome moments in the MCU. When Echo broke Clint’s hearing aid, Kate had to be his ears when he talked to his son. This led to them understanding each other on a better level. Later, when they sit at a restaurant for breakfast, Kate tells how Hawkeye has a branding problem. Later, he explains to her that being a superhero is not as cool as it sounds. He then explains how he has been Hawkeye for the last 20 years and how tiring it is. When many viewers ignored this big detail, we picked up on it. And this gives us a rough idea about his age.

HAWKEYE’S AGE – IN MCU AND COMICS

Jeremy Renner MCU

Clint Barton was a SHIELD special agent when we first saw him (2011). And as we could tell from his conversations with Natasha, that he was a spy before Nick Fury recruited him. A year later, he was one of the 6 founding members of the Avengers Initiative and has been a regular character since. And that was 12 years ago, as Hawkeye is set in December 2024. Albeit, Jeremy Renner, the actor who plays Clint Barton, just turned 50. Recently, MCU writers revealed that ScarJo’s character shares the same year of birth as the actress. So, if we go by this precedent, Edith Barton would have given birth to baby Clint in 1971, the birth year of Jeremy Renner. So, Hawkeye should be around 53 or 54 in the MCU.

Surprisingly, he is way too older than his comic counterpart at this point in his career. According to Hawkeye’s first comic series, written by Matt Fraction, Clint was born on June 18th. The comic series started in the early 80s where the character was roughly in his 30s. Despite being in his prime, he was tired of the world and fighting for its survival. Then again, just like in the MCU, his comic counterpart couldn’t quit his superhero life, despite trying multiple times. Hawkeye’s career lasted almost 60 years in the comics and by the time he quit, he was still able to fight if need be. Still, the comics depicted Hawkeye as significantly younger than he was supposed to be.

Avengers: Endgame Snap

Clint Barton has served SHIELD for the last 20 years. this implies that he would have joined the organization at 32. This gives him plenty of time to operate as a spy. His father was an abuser and used to beat his mother and himself, at least in the comics. As a result, he turned to martial arts at an early age and inspired by Iron Man, took on the hero life.

Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton, Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Fra Fee as Kazi, Vera Farmiga as Eleanor Bishop, Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, Zahn McClarnon as William Lopez, Brian d’Arcy James, and possibly, Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin.
