Ant-Man 3 Will Reportedly Introduce MODOK Into The MCU
Fans of the MCU might be excited about the upcoming Spider-Man movie as it will open up the franchise to a bazillion possibilities. But this movie might actually just be a stepping stone towards every bit of craziness that will unfold in the upcoming movies. Next year we will get to witness some more sequels that might still be showing hints of the multiversal chaos that will unfold in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Similar to most of the other upcoming MCU projects very few details have been revealed regarding the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Both these movies are set to add some whole new characters and worlds to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to sources, Ant-Man 3 will introduce MODOK in a major role besides Kang the Conqueror.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
The last Ant-Man movie, Ant-Man and the Wasp had a major role to play in the MCU during the events of Avengers: Endgame. While the movie wasn’t very good, it did introduce us to some elements that did play out significantly in the later projects of the franchise. Some of the most exciting bits of the movie unfolded with the idea of the Quantum world. But now it seems that the third part in the series of films will be exploring a lot more of the weird and wacky things referenced from the Quantum Realm.
Fans were much excited to hear that Jonathan Majors will be reprising his role in the movie as Kang the Conqueror as this meant that we will get to see him as the antagonist. There have been theories that he might be the next big baddie following Thanos after the end of the Infinity Saga. Following the rumors that Bill Murray would be a part of the movie, the actor confirmed his appearance in the movie but also clarified that he won’t be reprising his role in the future of MCU.
Ant-Man 3 Will Introduce MODOK
Based on The Direct’s sources, MODOK is going to be introduced in the MCU with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in a major role. Marvel Studios is yet to confirm this news regarding MODOK’s presence in the sequel. There were theories surrounding Jim Carrey being cast in the role of MODOK but the same sources have denied the actor’s involvement as MODOK in Quantumania. Still, we did believe that MODOK could be coming in Quantumania as there is a mysterious benefactor who employed Sonny Burch in Part 2. But with the announcement of Kang, we didn’t think that Marvel would want to cover two infamous villains in one movie. And yet, they seem to be doing it!
M.O.D.O.K.
MODOK was actually a villain who originally went by the name of George Tarleton and was an employee at Advanced Idea Mechanics. Due to a failed experiment, Tarleton is transformed into a lifeform that is freakish and has an overgrown head. He becomes the Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing and his oversized head gives him genius-level intellect and psionic powers.
It is not surprising that the character has been involved in the project because Paul Rudd himself wrote the character in his draft for Quantumania. There might be a chance that the character was able to survive the rewrites thus giving him a chance to appear in the final film. AIM has also been a part of the MCU for a long time now so we can actually say that the organization might also make an appearance along with him. MODOK was a part of an animated HULU series that was running separately from the MCU. It will be interesting to see if the movie adaptation of the character draws some influence from the series. Patton Oswalt, who portrays MODOK in the animated series recently made his MCU debut with the role of Pip the Troll in Eternals.
We could see a scenario where Kang the Conqueror comes in the way of MODOK’s plans and this could be an interesting narrative. The comics have often seen both of these villains take the role of doing the greater good and that puts an exciting spin if both of them appear in Quantumania. At the same time, we could see them teaming up as Kang uses the latter to annihilate all his enemies (variants of him). Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is scheduled to release in theatres worldwide on July 28, 2023.
