Why The Eternals Did Not Show Up To Stop Infinity Ultron

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has done things that were never expected from any film studio, much less one that exclusively makes superhero movies. Yet the franchise has expanded well beyond its native media. It now exists in all forms of entertainment, be it comic books or OTT series. One of the most intriguing experiments that marvel has done recently is the expansion into animation with What If…? The comic trope and the freedom of animation were on full display when Ultron grasped the Infinity Stones and transformed into Infinity Ultron in the latest episode. But we found ourselves wondering why the Eternals did not show up to stop him.

The Trailer of Eternals explains why they chose to not interfere when Thanos erased half of all life at the end of Infinity War. Eternals suggest that they were instructed not to interfere in any Human conflicts unless deviants were involved. Instructed by Celestials themselves. There seems to be looming anger in the Celestials that make them more akin to oppressors rather than Gods. And if Celestials are Gods, then Deviants are definitely demons. But I digress, Infinity Ultron is the topic of our conversation and Infinity Ultron is The Devil, in the true sense of the word.

He not only destroys human civilization but also took out his wrath on the universe. The decisive actions of Infinity Ultron resulted in the complete slaughter of all life everywhere. Even worse than what Thanos wanted to do in Endgame. “A grateful universe, which knows not what it has lost, only what it has gained”. So fail to understand, why, even when the entire creation is on the line, why then do Eternals not come out to help everyone. Are Celestials the true threat in the universe?

Eternals Did not Show Up

Or do Deviants even surpass them in villainy? It is a question that will only be answered in the Eternals movie. However, we think that Eternals is going to be more focused on the struggle with the Deviants. The real question is why Eternals don’t show up. After all, Ego was also a Celestial and he was destroyed by Infinity Ultron, so there is no reason to believe that he would not have targeted other Celestials. He must have sensed their presence. He was able to sense the watcher so it follows that other Celestials weren’t that hard to find.

If he did, then we did not get a chance to see it. It is possible that the illustrators and the storyboard team of What If…? were instructed to only add things from the Infinity Saga rather than pick new things from the comics. Who knows what Marvel Studios want to include in their next movie or series. Regardless, it feels like the stories we see in What IF…? are mere glances in the universe. We don’t get the whole picture. There is a possibility that there was an entire battle between Eternals and Ultron that we haven’t seen.

It would be convenient to the plot but that is what What If…? is, plot convenience. But I digress, the involvement of Eternals into the episode would’ve lowered the stakes for Black widow and Hawkeye and even taken attention from the slaughter. The Watcher had to get involved for the series finale so the Eternals were glazed over. It will be funny to see them try to reconcile these plotholes in a second season after the end of the next 3 phases.

Where were the Eternals?

It is highly likely that the Eternals either died at the hands of Infinity Ultron or are still in hiding. Maybe the Celestials and the living tribunal will eventually interfere and stop Ultron. It is possible that the ragtag team of Multiverse Superheroes will be defeated by Infinity Ultron in the final episode and The Living Tribunal will have to interfere. We cannot know for sure but the storyline would be a fun nod to the actual story from the comics. Whatever the conclusion, we know, we can’t wait to see it.

What do you think of our theory and analysis? Does it make sense? Or is it just too far-fetched? Maybe it is too complicated? Or seems rather vague? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and keep watching this space for everything Marvel, DC, and Hollywood. Excelsior!!
