Loki Director Answers If Cap Created a Nexus Event in Endgame

Avengers: Endgame was one of the biggest MCU films ever. The world’s mightiest heroes, the Avengers, finally took their revenge and eliminated Thanos, but at the cost of Natasha and Tony’s life. However, in the end, Rogers went back in time to live with Peggy and deliver on the century-long promise. But if we were to tie Endgame with the latest Disney+ series Loki, was Captain America’s ending in Endgame a Nexus event? Loki‘s director Kate Herron has finally answered if Cap created a Nexus Event in Endgame.

Cap Created a Nexus Event in Endgame, But…

Steve went back in time to live out his days with Peggy Carter. According to Endgame’s writers, Cap stayed and grew old in the same timeline. But according to the Russos, he created a new branch timeline. That’s more fitting according to Endgame’s time travel logic. And even Loki‘s director Kate Herron agrees.

According to the TVA and the entire concept of Sacred Timeline, it would have definitely created an alternate timeline. So did the timeline get pruned? This question has tickled people ever since the start of Loki. When Loki escaped with the Tesseract, he got arrested by the TVA. So what about Steve?

In an interview with The Direct,  Herron said:

“So! I’ve been thinking about this (laughs). I’m just like [so excited]… People are going to be annoyed because it’s not a definitive answer, but also I can only really answer as a fan, right? My theory is this: It comes down to if you’re an optimist or a pessimist. If you’re an optimist, maybe it was okay [for] them living that way, and the branch wasn’t so severe that it didn’t need to be pruned, and that meant that they could stay together. Maybe the romantics can say somehow that managed to exist. And then the pessimists [think], ‘They probably got pruned (laughs).'”

If we go by the theory of Herron and believe that He Who Remains didn’t have a problem with this timeline, then Steve and Peggy survived. But then again, if you’re pessimistic, then they both got pruned along with their timelines. Elaborating on this, Endgame director Russo Bros. has previously accepted that they think that Steve went back in time and created n alternate timeline. But endgame co-writer Christopher Markus has said that he believes that there are two Steve Rogers in ’48 and doesn’t believe the alternate reality theory.

Captain America’s Nexus Event Stayed Below TVA’s Radar

As seen in Loki, the TVA doesn’t entertain people creating branching timelines. In Miss Minutes’ presentation, it was revealed that an alternate timeline can be created by someone getting late for work. So if something that trivial can do it, then Steve’s actions are definitely heavier than this. Kate Herron elaborated on her theory:

“It depends on how people fall on that side of things because in my head I guess it would be… generally branches have to be pruned and then maintained, right? But it depends. Like if it’s alternate, it would imply that it’s running alongside our main timeline, so yeah. I don’t want to definitively say that they were pruned, but by our logic in the TVA, probably. But maybe where there’s a will there’s a way, and they weren’t too disruptive and managed to live happily ever after.”

So according to Herron, Steve’s timeline is running alongside our main timeline, so it isn’t really a problem. Moreover, if her theory is right, then Steve’s timeline stayed did not TVA’s radar. Herron also says that the couple might have not been disruptive, hence living a life they always wanted to. And if all of this was a part of the Sacred Timeline, then Herron’s optimistic theory weighs heavy.

Role Of He Who Remains

Cap created a Nexus Event in Endgame

He who Remains is the one behind it all. He is the one who made the TVA and protects the Sacred Timeline. It is possible that he let this one event slide. He made sure that the time heist went perfectly so that the Avengers can beat Thanos. Even though he’s evil, he is the kindest out of his countless variants. So maybe as a reward, he could have let Steve live the rest of his days out with Peggy.

Another factor is that He Who Remains was more invested in Loki, who escaped with the Tesseract. As explained in the finale, the path to He Who Remains was paved by himself, and Sylvie and Loki just walked on it. Steve is out there somewhere in the MCU living with Peggy, and now the multiverse is wide open. Let’s see where the MCU goes from here.

Loki is streaming on Disney+. Cap created a Nexus Event in Endgame for sure. But here’s why he wasn’t pruned by the TVA according to us:
