How The Origin of Black Adam will be Different from the Comics

Black Adam has not been able to give us a proper trailer yet but we got our first major footage from the film in the form of a clip from the movie. This is a lot more than what was expected considering fans were expecting a trailer during the DC FanDome event. The reveal definitely marked one of the major moments from the event considering it was a complete clip. We had gotten a tease about the plot during the last FanDome event, which was also the first such virtual DC event. The clip also marks the first time that we have gotten to see the character in action while donning his costume. Fans are wondering and trying to figure out every single bit of information that can be acquired from the clip. It seems that the movie will make some changes to the origin of Black Adam from the comics.

Black Adam

Black Adam will appear in cinema halls across the world in the summer of next year and it seems the movie will be taking some liberty from the arc of the character from the comics. The movie has been a rather interesting project for The Rock and he has been hyping fans up since 2008. The movie just completed its principal photography earlier this year. Several images were revealed that gave us an idea about the project but the most awesome thing definitely has to be the clip that we got to see from the movie during the DC FanDome event. We finally got to see Johnson in full costume and we even got a chance to witness his powers and abilities.

The character of Black Adam has seen various narratives over the years in the comics and the movie having its own version of the narrative is just another example of this. There is a major chance that the movie might actually end up redeeming the character of Black Adam. Dwayne Johnson has shown massive appreciation for the project and thus we can clearly imagine it would not be a massive failure.

The Origin of Black Adam In The Comics

The character definitely has one of the most complex narratives compared to other characters in the DC comics universe. He was originally supposed to be a villainous mirror of Shazam and the two were meant to be archenemies. The character was a slave in the nation of Kahndaq but was given freedom upon being granted the powers of Shazam. But his rather unfair use of the powers led the gods to imprison him for 5,000 years.

Origin of Black Adam

Another interesting detail about the character has to be the introduction of Adrianna Tomaz in the 52 comics. The latter is brought to Adam by the Intergang but she was freed by him. Later Adrianna gains the power of the ancient goddess Isis from the Amulet of Isis that was granted to her by Adam’s enemy Shazam. Adam and Adrianna believed in each other and the fact that they can be a force of good. But her death due to getting infected by one of the Horsemen of Apocalypse makes Adam return to his old ways.

Changes To This Narrative In The Movie

It seems that this entire narrative will be changed quite a lot in the movie considering they won’t cross paths in the same way. Both of them will cross paths in a rather Indiana Jones style. According to the clip that we got to see at DC FanDome, she will be with a group of mercenaries for an expedition. She discovers an inscription on a chamber’s stone floor and says “Shazam!“, which ends up freeing Adam from his imprisonment. Sarah Shahi played Adrianna Tomaz in the movie and it seems she will be our means of exploring the world of Black Adam. There is a chance that the character might also be set up to receive her powers.

The movie will certainly do a lot of interesting changes considering it will be introducing a character that was popularly a villain to the world of superhero movies. There is also major speculation that Henry Cavill might drop in for a cameo in the movie as the characters might face off sometime in the future. It will also feature major characters like Atom Smasher, Doctor Fate, Cyclone, and Hawkman in significant roles. Black Adam will be released worldwide on July 29 of 2022.

The rest of DC’s upcoming slate includes The Batman, which arrives on March 4, 2022, The Flash on November 4, 2022, Aquaman 2 on December 16, 2022, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods will hit theatres on June 2, 2023. DC also has films like a Superman Reboot, Black Canary, Batgirl, Static Shock, Green Lantern Corps. and Blue Beetle under development. But those films are undated till now.
