Eternals Gets a Rotten Score on RT And Becomes The First MCU Movie To Do So

Marvel Cinematic Universe has some rather interesting projects set for a release in its fourth phase considering this will follow the events after the Infinity Saga. There have been various projects that initiated this phase with the shows that were released earlier this year. But the more major projects have been scheduled for the end of the year with the year ending with the highly anticipated Spider-Man: No Way Home. Marvel is known for helming projects that are successful with both the audience and the critics. There have been certain downers at times but this was not seen in recent times. It seems MCU has now got its lowest-rated title amongst the critics as Eternals gets a rotten score.

Eternals

MCU’s fourth phase has seen a major success this year with its early projects earning major acclaim, as WandaVision earned the franchise its first Emmy. Fans have a lot of expectations for Eternals considering the project is directed by Oscar-winning director Chloe Zhao. The movie had been gaining positive reviews so far and there have been mentions of a chance at the 2021 Oscars. But that’s coming to a stop considering with a week left for the movie’s release it has started earning some negative reviews.

Eternals Gets a Rotten Score

With the previews already initiated, reviews from critics have started arriving and it seems that all is not good with Eternals based on these initial reviews. Eternals has aggregated a 59% rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes with 116 reviews, thus making it the lowest-rated MCU project. Previously this position was held Thor: The Dark World with a rating of 66%. This is the first time an MCU movie has fallen to the rotten stage. By the time all the reviews are counted, this score may fall even further. This is in huge contrast to the last MCU release that had played a major gambit, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsand holds a 92% rating.

There has been a major controversy with an unfair review bombing being done in the movie’s IMDb for the way it has depicted a gay couple for the first time in MCU. All this comes us a major surprise considering the movie had seen largely positive reviews following the very first reviews were majorly positive. It seems that fans have to watch the movie themselves to realize whether it is worth the negative press it is getting. Eternals opens in theaters worldwide on November 5.
