Christopher Nolan has a massive fan base all around the world. Be it his movie about criminals inside-dreams-inside-dreams or a group of astronauts going through wormholes to find a habitable planet, fans love his projects. Any possible news about his upcoming ventures always keeps us hooked on what to expect next from his brain. Most of the major directors are shifting to streaming services for their projects since they are ready to put up with the dream projects. Netflix was trying really hard to hard to get hold of Nolan so that he can work with them for his next project. It seems that Universal Pictures has landed the right to finance and distribute the next Christopher Nolan movie based around Oppenheimer and his Manhattan Project.
The Next Christopher Nolan Movie
The last time we got an insight into Nolan’s mind was with Tenet. It explored the genre of reverse movement of time. Something that was merely touched by the likes of H. G. Wells in their works of fiction. This time around Nolan is set to work on a project about J. Robert Oppenheimer and his role in the development of the atom bomb. This project was given the title of Manhattan Project. The film is now greenlit and will begin production in the first quarter of 2022.
Why Universal Pictures?
This also seems to be the end of the long relationship that Nolan had with Warner Bros. for his past projects. Nolan was deciding between Universal, MGM, and Sony and thus Warner Bros. seemed to be out of this lot. He had experienced a rough time with the release of Tenet due to the delays. It was eventually released during the pandemic and the numbers turned out to be really well. This was all okay but what seems to have made the visionary director change his mind was the way Warner Bros. was gonna release their projects on the HBO Max streaming service right next to the theatre release. He was highly against this decision and spoke up about it when Dune was decided to have the same fate.
It seems Nolan made the right choice because he didn’t want his cinema to be reduced to the confines of a house. According to rumors, longtime collaborator Cillian Murphy was being discussed for a key role in his next project. The movie will be produced by Nolan and his wife and producing partner Emma Thomas under the Syncopy Inc. banner.
