9 Ways John Walker Could Return In MCU’s Future Projects

When John Walker was given the title of Captain America, maybe most of us assumed that he will be the permanent Captain America for a lifetime. But he did something wrong and the mantle was taken away from him. Now the character was shown to be a sort of evil in the beginning. But later he came back to help Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson in defeating the Flag-Smashers. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is popular for many things. But the best thing here was that they made us think that maybe we have got our new Captain America. Now let’s check how John Walker could return in the MCU.

1. Leading the Thunderbolts

The character General “Thunderbolt” Ross was introduced in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Ross is one such character in the MCU who does not fear superheroes or supervillains. Even in Captain America: Civil War, the Avengers were bound to follow his orders. Now he even has a team according to the comics. His team members include Ghost, Abomination, Baron Zemo, and John Walker. With Contessa joining them, the Thunderbolts team can be MCU’s Suicide Squad.  It depends on time how or if MCU decides to proceed with this plan.

2. Working as a watchdog for the West Coast Avengers

John Walker Could Return

Avengers: Endgame brought all the MCU superheroes together. But at the same time, it also disbanded the team after the death of Tony Stark. A few of them died and the others retired since they were tired of fighting the world-ending events. Now there is a possibility that the Dark Avengers, Secret Avengers, and the West Coast Avengers can make their MCU debut. Cassie Lang will take on her superhero mantle as Stature. So Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania may set up a West Coast Avengers team. Even in the comics, John Walker was appointed as a watchdog for the West Coast Avengers when their government clearance was on the rocks.

3. Redeemed as an antihero

When John Walker was first introduced in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, even Bucky Barnes was not happy with the decision of him taking the mantle of Captain America. Somewhere, Bucky was sure that Walker lacks the decency and morals of Steve Rogers. His prediction came out to be true when Walker killed a Flag-Smasher with the shield in front of the public. He was stripped of his mantle as Captain America. Now the mantle was taken by Sam Wilson towards the end of the movie. Since we saw a dark side of Walker, Marvel can now redeem him as a type of antihero who realizes he made a mistake or can double down on his villainous character. At one point, Walker might have to choose if he wants to be a villain or a redeemed antihero.

4. Fighting Clint Barton and Kate Bishop in Hawkeye

A few months ago, MCU decided to make standalone series on the characters that were overshadowed in the movies. Now after WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki, Hawkeye is getting his series. There is a possibility that Clint Barton will pass on the mantle of Hawkeye to Kate Bishop. Kate Bishop’s role will be played by Hailee Steinfield. Now the U.S. Agent can be one of the villains they would face in the show. Maybe Walker has been chosen to play a major role in Hawkeye where he might kill Clint and end Jeremy Renner’s time in the MCU. This can be a perfect motivation for Kate to become a superhero.

5. Forming a new Super-Soldier army

John Walker Could Return

It was not revealed in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier if John Walker took the Super-Soldier Serum or not. But the thing has been implied in a few of the episodes. The remaining Flag Smashers were killed by Helmut Zemo’s butler when they were being taken away to prison. But for sure there are many serums out there. Considering this, Walker might return with his army of super-soldiers. He could select a few people and inject them with the Serum and create his army.

6. A private mercenary for Contessa

The brief appearance of Contessa Valentina Allegra De Fontaine in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier raised a lot of questions for the MCU fans. A few also thought that she might be the Power Broker mentioned throughout the series. A lot of things are still unknown about Contessa. But she told Walker that she has a job for him. So we might get to see Walker working as a private mercenary for Contessa. He could be signed in to do Contessa’s dirty work. He might go to kill and capture anyone as ordered by Contessa.

7. Helps to rebuild HYDRA

In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it was revealed that HYDRA has been secretly operating inside S.H.I.E.L.D. Alexander Pierce was its leader. They also named Captain America and Black Widow as fugitives from S.H.I.E.L.D. But still, by teaming up with Sam Wilson aka Falcon, they took down HYDRA when they tried to kill people with the Insight helicarriers. Now according to the comics, the real name of Contessa is Madame Hydra. Now she might have recruited Walker to rebuild S.H.I.E.L.D. and have control over S.H.I.E.L.D. once again like the good old days.

8. Becoming U.S. Agent

John Walker was given the mantle of Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.  Now maybe we never expected that we would get to see a dark side of his character. But that happened. When Walker was stripped of his title as Captain America, he was met by Contessa who said that she has some work for him. Then in the final episode, Walker was recruited as U.S. Agent by Contessa. Now according to the comics, U.S. Agent is a lawless and authoritarian version of Captain America. We might get to see Walker in the same form.

9. Fighting Skrulls in Secret Invasion

MCU’s Secret Invasion is another most ambitious project from Marvel Studios. A lot of theories and other things are being speculated for the series. But despite all this, MCU fans have been eagerly waiting for it. It will be told through the eyes of Nick Fury and Skrull Talos and reveal that a major portion of the Earth’s population has been taken over by the Skrulls in disguise. Marvel has not confirmed the characters that would return or will be seen along with Nick Fury and Talos. But considering the plot, a lot of known MCU faces will show up.

So this is how John Walker could return to the MCU after The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
