Pixar: 10 Things You Should Know About The Incredibles

MCU and DCEU are now leading as popular superhero franchises at the box office. But a long time back, in 2004, when The Incredibles was released, it was not just a normal superhero film. It offered us a new view of superheroes. We got to see the adventures of the Parr superhero family. They were also excited when the sequel was released three years ago. But despite all this, there are a few good things you should know about The Incredibles. Let’s have a look:

1. The best voice cast

Like every other animation film, it was important for the makers to bring the best of the best actors to voice the characters. Holly Hunter played Helen Parr / Elastigirl, Craig T. Nelson played Bob Parr / Mr. Incredible, Sarah Vowell played Violet Parr, and Huck Milner played Dashiell “Dash” Robert Parr. Besides them, everyone loved Lucius Best aka Frozone. He was Bob’s best friend, and he was voiced by our very own Uncle Sam! Samuel L. Jackson was chosen to voice Frozone as Brad Bird the coolest voice for this part in particular.

2. A long gap between the first movie and the sequel

The first Incredibles was a huge box office hit. Fans were waiting for the sequel. But it took almost fourteen years. Brad Bird said that he would write and direct it if he gets an idea for the plot that would be better than the first film. Also, in terms of an animation movie, animating the story and recording the voice of the characters can take a long time. Overall, it is a very long process.

3. The powers of Jack-Jack

People who have read a lot of comic books, especially Fantastic Four, know well about the powers of Jack-Jack. The remaining members of the family had powers inspired by the Fantastic Four. The one character that was missing here was Human Torch and so was Jack. Maybe most of the people got an idea about what powers Jack would have despite the claim of Helen that her youngest son had no special powers.

4. Inspired by other superheroes

Things you should know about The Incredibles

The Incredibles is a completely different superhero franchise. But if you have not read the comics, you might not realize that the superhero family is inspired by others. One obvious example here is Fantastic Four. Reed Richards has the power to stretch his body like Helen/Elastigirl. Susan Storm can turn invisible and protect others like Violet.

5. For the first time

The Incredibles was completely different in comparison to other films of that era. So many things happened for the first time. It was the first Pixar movie where the title appeared in the end. It was the first Pixar film that had a human protagonist. It was the first PG-rated film of Pixar released on VHS. The film was Samuel L. Jackson’s first acting part in animation.

6. Financially successful

The plot and everything else of The Incredibles was loved by the audience. It made $631 million. But the sequel broke many box office records. Incredibles 2 was the only third Pixar movie earning over one billion dollars worldwide. To be exact, it brought in $1.243 billion and became the highest-grossing Pixar film. It followed the footsteps of Toy Story 3 and Finding Dory and beat their numbers. Then Toy Story 4 also went past the Billion Dollar mark.

7. A different type of villain

Superhero films are incomplete without a villain. But in terms of The Incredibles, it is the heroes who create their own enemies. Syndrome, who wished to be Mr. Incredible’s sidekick, turns out to be Syndrome. Mr. Incredible’s rejection broke his heart and made him an enemy. But he was actually not supposed to be the main villain. The initial plan was that he would appear in the first scene. But the character was liked by Pixar animators and he was given a larger role.

8. They mean business

Things you should know about The Incredibles

The Incredibles was a very unique film. It was the second Pixar film to show that characters get injured and they bleed. When Bob attacks the robot, he gets cut and bleeds. Another movie that showed its heroes bleeding was Finding Nemo, released in 2003. Injury and bleeding are two such things that are mostly ignored in animated films.

9. Inspired by Kristen Stewart

A rumor about Incredibles 2 is that the character of Voyd was based on Kristen Stewart. Most of the fans have stated that Voyd had the same mannerisms and appearance as Stewart. The character was voiced by Sophia Bush. Still, the rumor has not ended yet. People still wonder what would have happened if Kristen Stewart had voiced the role.

10. Imitates real life

Brad Bird took inspiration from his life for The Incredibles. Bird had an idea for the film in the early 1990s. He has struggled a lot to balance his personal life and work life. This theme plays an important role in the film. Jack-Jack is the youngest member of the Parr family. But he did not get this name by accident. Brad Bird and his wife have actually given this nickname to one of their sons.

So, these are the things you should know about The Incredibles if you’re fans of the franchise.
