The Deadpool Movies Skipped This Weird Part From His Origin

Deadpool is a character that has grown a massive fan base over the years. This fan base only saw an increase after the character made its live-action debut with the movies from Fox. Now we are going to see the character make his MCU debut with the director confirmed for the project. The two movies that we got to see featuring the character surely convinced fans regarding the character. There are a lot of stories and arcs to be explored for the character in the Marvel comics and there’s a lot that can be utilized. It seems the Deadpool movies avoided this interesting arc from his origin story.

Deadpool

The Merc with the Mouth made his debut in the comics with The New Mutants #98 came out in 1991. Initially, he appeared as the villain in the franchise but things took a whole new turn with some interesting developments to the character over the years. His character was made to be quite stoic in the initial arc as created by artist and writer Rob Liefeld. This ended up helping him gain quite the popularity along with the costume that included the mask and the simple costume. It was something that was common with some of the most popular characters that appeared in the 90s era, featuring ammo pouches and tactical gear along with shoulder pads.

But the most awesome development to the character would take place quite late into the 90s. We would get to see him develop some interesting quirks that were rather uncommon including the fourth wall breaking. This allowed having some of the most awesome arcs that fans never expected to see come out of the pages of the Marvel comics. It was also around this time only that the character would become more of an antihero than his first appearance as a villain. The sense of humor only helped him gain some popularity amongst the fans. Even though a live-action interpretation of the character was in development for quite a long time, we would only get to see it with 2016’s Deadpool.

The Weird History of Wade Wilson

Even though the movies tried to stick with the tone of the character, there are some elements that it had to stay away from. This includes the arc where Wade Wilson remembers his past as a sumo wrestler. While fans might associate him with the character of Vanessa, this time around he had a completely different love interest with Sazae. This is something that won’t quite fit into the Deadpool arc we have gotten to see in the movies and thus it makes sense why the comics would avoid it. But it does make for an interesting Easter egg that could be included in future projects for the character.

In Deadpool and Widdle Wade Team-Up #1, we see a flashback sequence where Wade infiltrates an entire compound. In order to do this, we see him undergoing sumo training that included quite a bit of fighting and eating. He is trained by Oyakata, who will later turn out to be his target. As he rises through the ranks he ends up becoming the heir to the entire compound and this is also around the time we see him falling in love with Sazae. But the very order that he has to assassinate his master Oyakata makes for a rather distressing moment for the character.

This marks the first time when Deadpool doesn’t go through with his mission. We see him abandoning his mission, knocking out his beloved, and running away from all this. While fans might be surprised by this arc for the character, it actually ends up showing a very humane side of Wade Wilson. Even though we got to see Wade fight for the love of his life in the Deadpool movies, they didn’t work on his humane part. It would be interesting to see Deadpool mention Oyakata in the upcoming Deadpool entry in the MCU as the reason behind his training. It is hardly ever that Deadpool is seen mentioning people he truly admires.
