When they talk about romance and love, we think of Tony-Pepper and Scott-Hope. That’s the chemistry we wish to have, not Nicholas Sparks. The romantic relationships in MCU are super enthralling. They are equally fun and spicy like tense action moments. Who said Superhero movies can’t have a good love story? The MCU writers have snuck in the romances so cleverly that they make the movies more interesting rather than mushy. I mean, Peggy literally shot Captain America after she saw him snogging someone else. And Peter and Gamora almost tried to kill each other during their first meeting.
Whoever says superhero movies are just about fighting and action sequence hasn’t watched the MCU. The reason why the studio is dominating the superhero genre today with blockbuster movies is because it struck the right balance amongst every aspect. It does have excellent fight and action but what captivates its audience is the perfect blend of emotions, comedy, and the story. Be it Tony Stark’s origin, Cap’s incomplete love story, or Scott Lang’s bond with his daughter, these elements keep us attached to the story. And the best part about Marvel romance? 1. Peter Parker and MJ
Peter never noticed MJ in the first film, Spider-Man: Homecoming since he was swooning over the popular girl in high school, Liz. But slowly, MJ grabs his attention with her cool and confident attitude. From fawning over pretty dresses, Peter soon fell for MJ’s intelligence, weirdness, and strong personality. Her super cool aura always makes Peter nervous. MJ not only figured out that Peter was Spider-Man, but she also fought well in London in Far From Home and showed deep concern for Spider-Man. The two finally confessed their feelings and united by the end of the movie.
2. Peter Quill and Gamora
Peter and Gamora met in the most unconventional way in the history of romance. Both of them were after an Infinity Stone which locked them in a captivating fighting sequence. The first time they met, Gamora tricked Peter to lay hands on the stone and kicked him hard before fleeing with her treasure. After becoming friends on forming the Guardians of the Galaxy, one day Peter and Gamora got into an intense moment, and right when they were about to have a kiss, Gamora attacked him and said “I know who you are, Peter Quill! I am not some starry-eyed waif here to succumb to your…. Pelvic sorcery!” However, the mismatch finally fell for each other.
3. Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne
Hope always doubted Scott’s intelligence and combat skills as Ant-Man since she herself had eyes on the suit. After constantly judging and deriding the mischievous Scott, Hope falls for him. Probably, even she didn’t realize when and how she got smitten by the goofy hero.
4. Thor and Jane Foster
Forget about the prince falling in love with a “commoner”. Here is a beautiful story of a demi-God being smitten by a genius human. Thor was in his worst shape when he met Jane. Even though Jane belonged to Earth, she understood Thor and his world as he walked her through his universe. Did you worry about their long-distance relationship? Look at Jane and Thor’s undying love despite everything. Though Jane “dumped” Thor as we learnt in Thor: Ragnarok, we can expect them to patch up since Natalie Portman will return to the franchise.
5. Tony Stark and Pepper Potts
Pepper started her job at the Stark Industries as Tony’s personal assistant. She was the only one who knew Tony inside out and could handle him. Though Tony was a playboy initially, he loved to flirt with Pepper and had a deep appreciation and respect for her intelligence, leadership skills, and motherly care for him. Eventually, Tony displayed his feelings for Pepper as he went till the ends of the world to save Pepper. They got to live their tiny moment of happiness with their daughter, Morgan, in those five years after the snap.
It was almost broke us when Tony took his last breath in Endgame and Pepper asked him to rest and assured him they’ll be okay.
6. Natasha Romanoff and Bruce Banner
This is one of the most heartbreaking love stories in the MCU. Both Natasha and Bruce, who felt like outsiders to the world found warmth in each other’s company. They felt like they belonged to each other but Bruce always pulled himself away due to his Hulk. At last, when some hope sparked between them, Black Widow sacrificed her life in Avengers: Endgame.
7. T’Challa and Nakia
For someone like the Black Panther, a badass and supersmart Nakia is the perfect match. She was introduced as his former girlfriend at the beginning of the movie, though T’Challa is still got speechless on seeing her. Over the course of the movie, Nakia fought beside T’Challa against Killmonger, and the two gradually reunited.
8. Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter
Peggy felt a connection with Steve even before he was injected with the Super-Soldier serum. As Steve became Captain America, she helped him save his friend Bucky from the captivity of HYDRA. Steve and Peggy were never explicit about their feelings for each other but we could sense their chemistry. At the end of Captain America: The First Avenger, Steve had to sacrifice his life for the greater good and couldn’t live up to his promise to take Peggy for a dance. Fortunately, Cap got to relive his life with his love, Peggy, as he traveled back in time to return the Infinity Stones.
9. Wanda Maximoff and Vision
These two misfits found soul mates in each other. Vision saved Wanda’s life when Sokovia blew up in the Age of Ultron but things turned a bit awry when he had to keep her confined and later fight her in a battle in Captain America: Civil War. But to everyone’s surprise, they saw something in each other that no one else could and since then became inseparable. Though Vision died in Infinity War, he will return to the MCU through WandaVision on Disney+.
10. Stephen Strange and Christine Palmer
Christine and Stephen have always had untold chemistry between them. They worked together at the hospital until Doctor Strange’s life took a sharp turn and forced him to sacrifice every desire and attachment. Christine saved Stephen’s life when he was stabbed and tried her best to fix his hand. In the end, they had to part ways as to attend their duties as heroes in their fields.
