Thanos’ Back Story Connected to Eternals:
People won’t really get hyped for The Eternals until Marvel shows us a good trailer. The ones aware of their comic book history do know the potential of this character, but even they’d have a lot of questions about these new characters coming to the MCU. This is a property that Marvel has teased the least. There have been Easter Eggs and references mainly for the Celestials. We haven’t been blessed with an appearance from any of the Eternals since they have kept themselves well hidden throughout the many years of MCU’s establishment. But there’s one particular Eternal who has made his presence known to the entire Universe through his actions. That’s none other than Thanos.
Yes, Thanos is an Eternal and there’s a major chance that he would appear in the upcoming Eternals movie. We could end up seeing a young Thanos as we have already seen the concept art of him and his family. In fact, Marvel could establish the Eternals using Thanos and his connection to the Eternals, as well as the Deviants.
It was the Celestials who created the Eternals and the Deviants as they experimented upon humans. The Eternals are immortal beings, but they look like humans, whereas the Deviants turned out to be a failed offshoot of the humans having unstable DNA monstrous appearances, and not being immortal like the Eternals. In the comics, Thanos is an Eternal Deviant hybrid. It is because of the presence of Deviant syndrome in his DNA that he looks like the purple monster we saw in Infinity War and Endgame. His genes were rare in his entire species. His hideous looks are why his mother could never love him (not trying to be mean, but it’s the truth).
While the Eternal stayed hidden in plain sight amongst the humans, the Deviants, on the other hand, could not blend in and built cities of their own to go into hiding. Like the Deviants, the Eternals also established a base on Earth. It is there that their leader, Kronos experimented with cosmic energy. But due to the failure of the experiment the cosmic energy spread all across the Eternals base, and the genes of the Eternals were altered permanently. This is what led to the Eternals having their distinct set of superpowers. But the failed experiment left Kronos in no position to lead anymore. So, his two sons all A’lars and Zuras were left to decide the next leader of the Eternals. Since both of them wanted to be the next leader, they came to the conclusion that they’ll Split the Eternals into two factions. Zuras led his group of Eternals on Earth, while A’lars Took a large group of Eternals to Saturn’s moon, Titan.
Now we know what happened on the Titan. A’lars fathered his two sons Thanos and Starox. So, it’s clear that Thanos has a blood relation to his uncle Zuras and Thena (The daughter Of Zuras who will be portrayed by Angelina Jolie). Thanos was not present on Earth When the experiment of Kronos failed. So he does not have powers like Thena or the other Eternals. But it is because of the Deviant syndrome in his DNA that he possesses superhuman strength and heightened abilities. It is possible that this back story might be used in the upcoming Eternals movie. Although don’t be surprised if this back story is altered a bit to fit in a better way into the MCU.
While Thanos is the proof to the fact that half of the Eternals flew off to Titan. We also have evidence that some of the Deviants also flew off Earth to inhabit other planets. And that evidence is none other than the Skrulls. The Skrulls are also a faction of the Deviants, so it’d be interesting to see how the MCU will adapt that into the ongoing continuity.
The Eternals arrives on February 12, 2021.
