Netflix’s Extraction 2 Happening:
Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction is now turning out to be the biggest Netflix movie ever as it has garnered more views (90 million+) than the exclusive Netflix films like Spenser Confidential (85 million views), 6 Underground (83 million views), Bird Box (80 million views), and the Adam Sandler/Jennifer Aniston comedy Murder Mystery (73 million views). Seeing the amazing reception of the film, Netflix has signed a new deal with Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo to come up with a script for a sequel.
Deadline broke the news that Joe Russo will be writing another Extraction film and the company run by him & his brother Anthony Russo, AGBO is currently putting the pieces together. They’re hopeful that stuntman turned director Sam Hargrave is going to return for another film, and probably even Chris Hemsworth will return.

People might be confused as Extraction left us with an open ending. Chris Hemsworth’s mercenary character Tyler Rake, supposedly died at the end of the movie. But the last frame of the film teased that he survived. So, if Chris Hemsworth is returning for the film, then it is highly likely that he survived the final hit. But there was a lot of backstory that was teased for Tyler Rake, so we could actually get a prequel story.
Even Joe Russo has teased that the second Extraction movie could be a prequel. Here’s what he told Deadline about Extraction 2:
“The deal is closed for me to write Extraction 2, and we are in the formative stages of what the story can be. We’re not committing yet to whether that story goes forward, or backward in time. We left a big loose ending that leaves question marks for the audience.”
Keep in mind that Chris Hemsworth’s deal for Extraction 2 isn’t final and Netflix won’t actually finalize it until they get to see a good script from Joe Russo. So, Extraction 2 could take a while since Russo is currently deciding the direction to take the story in. But still, Chris Hemsworth is pretty stroked to see the support from the audience and he said that he is ready to return for Extraction 2. Check it out:

Hemsworth says:
“We love you, guys. It’s been a lot of talk and questions about sequels and prequels and all sorts of things and all I can say is ‘who knows’ but with this kind of support, it’s something I’d be pretty stoked to jump back into.”
So it more or less confirmed that Chris Hemsworth will return. Even though the critics haven’t supported Extraction a lot, we have to say that the movie had extremely strong & well shot action sequences. And the story did have as much heart and emotion as was possible. So, we’d love not 1 but at least 2 more Extraction related stories. Since it has turned out to as the biggest Netflix movie of all time, we’re pretty sure that there could be at least 2 more John Wick style action movies set in this franchise. The next one could actually be a prequel and the third film as we theorize could follow the story after Extraction, meaning Tyler Rake did survive Dhaka. Let’s see what happens.
Chris Hemsworth fans should be stoked because we’re getting to see some more hard core action from him in an Extraction sequel. And apart from that he will obviously return as Thor in Love And Thunder and beyond. He is supposed to play Hulk Hogan in his biopic Hulkamania movie. And, last but not the least, Chris Hemsworth had also signed on to star in another film produced by Avengers: Infinity War & Avengers: Endgame directors Joe & Anthony Russo. It is a buddy cop action comedy movie called Down Under Cover. Hemsworth will star alongside Tiffany Haddish. We should expect the movie to arrive in 2021 or 2022.
