Matt Reeves is bringing in a new trilogy that will give us a new angle at the most familiar hero of the world. But what about the most familiar villain, the crime prince of Gotham? When will Joker arrive in The Batman trilogy? Will it be in The Batman 2? Or will it be in The Batman 3? More importantly, who will play the next Joker? It obviously can’t be Joaquin Phoenix since The Batman is an independent story, not connected to any previous film or shared Universe. The internet’s latest choice for Joker in the Batman Trilogy is Johnny Depp.
Depp has currently been busy with the legal battle taking place between him & his former spouse Amber Heard. But simultaneously, he has been trying to make it big in Hollywood as well. The major role that he was recently played was of Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 2, and will surely return in Fantastic Beasts 3. But what else? There’s no major role that Depp is attached to. Recently, a rumor came up suggesting that Disney is considering for him to return as Jack Sparrow in the next installment of Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but we shouldn’t hold that rumor very high.
Now, another rumor that comes from We Got This Covered states that Johnny Depp could play the Joker in The Batman trilogy. Since WGTC is known to inflict a lot of new rumors which don’t come true quite often, we should take this new one as a grain of salt. This rumor could actually be based upon the fact that Johnny Depp was a fan favorite choice for playing Joker in The Dark Knight before Heath Ledger was cast as the crime prince of Gotham. So perhaps WGTC might be trying to reignite the decade old fire. Depp has played plenty of characters with Make Up, he could certainly do Joker as well.
Well, we’ve got another fan casting to counter this. For ages, the fans have also wanted to see Willem Dafoe play Joker on the big screen. He & Robert Pattinson recently gave powerful performances in The Lighthouse. Since it is Robert Pattinson playing Batman, we’d love to see Willem Dafoe play Joker. And this time, it should be a “Batman Under the Redhood” story involving the Joker.
Red Hood probably can’t arrive for the next 2 films since Batman himself is in his formative years for now. So, we won’t be seeing a Robin until the second film. By the time we arrive at the third Batman film, we might actually get to see a Red Hood story. Since we’ve already seen plenty of Batman vs. Joker stories, the movie could actually begin with the opening montage of a pretty mature Batman & a young Jason Todd, trying to catch Joker (& Harley Quinn). This whole montage might lead to Jason Todd getting captured & supposedly being killed by the Joker, with Batman failing to save him. Then comes a bit of time jump which would be after Batman captures Joker & puts him in jail.
Then after a time jump, in comes Jason Todd, as the Red Hood. He’d not only offer a physical challenge to Batman (who by now is in his late 30s or early 40s & is getting slower), but he’d become a great mental challenge for the Caped Crusader. That’s because Todd will be questioning Batman’s no-killing rule which he stood by even in the case of Joker, who killed seemingly his protégé. To escalate things, we might see an amazing performance from Willem Dafoe as the Joker. This is our pitch for The Batman 3.
