Ryan Reynolds and Jason Momoa To Star In Legendary’s Animal Friends

Ryan Reynolds is teaming up with a star-studded cast for the upcoming live-action/animated hybrid film, Animal Friends. According to reports, the film will feature Reynolds alongside Jason Momoa, Vince Vaughn, and Aubrey Plaza. Directed by Peter Atencio, the movie will be written by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider, and produced by Maximum Effort, Legendary, and Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios. Visual effects and animation will be provided by DNEG, a leading visual entertainment services company.

The R-rated road trip adventure will feature both live-action and animated characters. The idea for the film reportedly came from a general meeting between Burrows & Mider and Patrick Gooing, an executive at Reynolds’ production company, Maximum Effort. Reynolds and Maximum Effort are also currently working on Deadpool 3, the highly anticipated threequel to the blockbuster Marvel series. Shawn Levy will direct the film, while a script will be written by Wendy Molyneaux and Lizzie Molyneaux-Loeglin of Bob’s Burgers fame.

Deadpool and Deadpool 2 writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are also reportedly returning to contribute to the script. Deadpool 3 will also feature a star-studded cast, including Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapičić as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, and Matthew Macfadyen and Emma Corrin in currently-unknown roles.

In a previous interview with Collider, Reynolds denied being responsible for Jackman’s return to the role of Wolverine, saying:

“I think you’re giving me too much credit. I always wanted Hugh to come back. My first meeting with Kevin Feige when Disney bought Fox years ago, maybe three years ago, or three and a half, four years ago, I’m not sure, was about doing a movie with the two of us, a Deadpool Wolverine movie. And that was not possible at the time. And then Hugh just happened to call at that perfect moment and express that he’d be interested in coming back and doing this one more time.”

As for Animal Friends, it remains to be seen how the film will turn out. However, with the star power involved and the creative team behind it, it’s sure to be a hit with fans of both live-action and animated movies. What are your thoughts on this exciting project?
