Known popularly to be the gateway to the valley of Kashmir and the junction to reach Vaishno Devi, Jammu has stood the test of time and retains its rich heritage and culture a vibrant place. Jammu is also the state winter capital of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The city has innumerable temples earning it the moniker city of temples. • Vaishno Temple: the most well-known pilgrim for all the Hindu community in the country and the world, Vaishno Devi is dedicated to Goddess Mahalaxmi. The temple is located in a cave up in the mountains.

• Raghunath Temple: Built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the Raghunath Temple complex consists of 7 different shrines in varying heights but similar spires. A blend of Mughal and Sikh style of architecture, the murals on the walls depict stories from the Ramayana, Mahabaharata and the Gita.

• Bahu Fort: Built by Raja Gulab Singh, the Dogra ruler in the 18^th century, the Bahu Fort has thick walls spanning across Jammu’s old town. The fort also has a very famous Mahakali temple dating back to 8^th

• Baag – e- Bahu: Situated on the banks of the River Tawi, the well-manicured lawns of the Baag – e- Bahu are a delightful sight. The colorful hues of the many flowers blooming here give it’s a picturesque charm.

• Amar Mahal Palace: Commissioned by Raja Amar Singh, the Dogra ruler and designed and built by a French architect, the Amar Mahal Palace now houses a museum that holds a fantastic collection of art, miniature paintings, books, and a very heavy 120 kg gold throne.
