Kevin Feige Confirms That Harrington’s Black Knight Role Will Grow Bigger in MCU

Black Knight Role Will Grow Bigger in MCU:

Before the D23 announcement, Deadline confirmed that Kevin Feige and co were courting Kit Harrington for an MCU role. People went on to anticipate that he may actually be playing Wolverine. Since Moon Knight was already announced, some thought that Harrington could be Moon Knight. But the role that Feige made the announcement for just turned out to be so perfect that all of us felt like fools not having seen it coming. Kit Harrington’s casting for Black Knight is logically so obvious.

We didn’t see it coming because no one really expected Black Knight to appear in Eternals even though there was a bit of chatter about the character coming to MCU very soon. Considering the film is about the Eternals and Dane Whitman isn’t one of those, we can expect that his role in the movie may not be as substantial. But given his stardom, we do know that Marvel has pouched him for a much bigger role in the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Yes, this means that Black Knight will not just be a property that only appears in the Eternals movies. His appearance in Eternals could perhaps set up a solo trilogy of his own just like Civil War set up multiple solo films for Spider-Man (don’t be sad) and Black Panther. In fact, Kevin Feige himself has given the confirmation that Harington’s Black Knight role would go even beyond Eternals.

Feige told Good Morning America:

“He’s a really amazing actor. This part came up in the Eternals film that we’re doing. We were so happy that he agreed to join, and it is a part that could perhaps grow into something else in the future.”

If you look at this and compare it with what Marvel leaker Roger Wardell posted on twitter, you’d see that everything he said is turning out to be true. Wardell posted a few spoilers about Avengers: Endgame back in 2018, and those turned out to be accurate. Now if you look at the aforementioned tweets, these are also looking to be pretty legit. He said that Ms. Marvel will get a Disney+ series and that’s what happened, and the bit about Black Knight and his trilogy is also believable after what Kevin Feige has just stated.

Now the question that stands is that will Marvel place the possible solo outing of Black Knight in the ancient past, or will it be a film set in Modern day. If Feige said “Beyond Eternals,” that obviously could mean that Black Knight could somehow travel to the future with time travel being an option in the MCU now. Wardell stated it that Black Knight could even be an Avenger. We don’t know whether that’d be true or not but a rumor that came out last year does suggest that Black Knight will make his way into the present-day MCU.

Back in 2018, we did a piece suggesting that Marvel had plans for a Captain Britain and Black Knight team-up movie directed by Guy Ritchie. Considering that Captain Britain is another strong contender on the verge of being added into the MCU, we could assume that this rumor about Black Knight and Captain Britain may actually hold some truth. We will obviously have to wait for further confirmations from Marvel, but thinking about the larger future of Black Knight does make us feel good.

Kit Harrington is a great actor and we’d love to see him interact with the Avengers. But even if he does get films in the ancient past, then that’d be totally fine as well. Let’s see what happens. Here’s how the Phase 4 slate looks for now –

Black Widow on May 1, 2020, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier in Fall 2020, The Eternals on November 6, 2020, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on February 12, 2021, WandaVision in Spring 2021, Loki in Spring 2021, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on May 7, 2021, What If? In Summer 2021, Hawkeye in Fall 2021, and Thor: Love and Thunder on November 5, 2021. Following these are Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight and She-Hulk. We bet that Harrington will play Moon Knight!
