10 Amazing Facts About Black Widow That Marvel Will Die Before Letting You Know

Facts About Black Widow:

As one of the founding superheroes of the Avengers and its first female member, Black Widow is a spy, sabotage artist, close combat expert and master manipulator all rolled into one. She is the complete package – deadly and beautiful, all at the same time. Black Widow has become so integral to the Avengers yet almost no one knows a thing or two about her rich past in the Marvel Universe. Presenting – 10 amazing facts about Black Widow that Marvel will die before letting you know!

 10. She is almost 100 years old

Facts About Black Widow Marvel

Almost nobody knows this but the redheaded hottie that entered the scene in style in Iron Man 2 is actually almost a centenarian. Black Widow started her career in the superhero arena 90 years ago. She was orphaned in the Battle of Stalingrad, then adopted by a Russian Soldier who gave her away to the Russian Black Widow Program in the early Cold War period, where she was trained from childhood to become a brilliant assassin and expert spy.

 9. She is a superhuman

Facts About Black Widow Marvel

At first glance, Black Widow might seem useless. What good is a woman firing pistols at a guy who can beat down the Hulk with his bare hands and scare the Jade Giant to death? There have been so many memes on Black Widow’s pistol scene in social media that we have lost count. But do not for a second think that Black Widow is helpless. When she was in the Soviet Red Room, the Russians gave her their own version of a Super Soldier Serum. As a result, she ages really slowly, has an incredible healing factor and has superhuman physical attributes superior to the average human being.

 8. She could have been a Ballerina

Facts About Black Widow Marvel

She is graceful enough as she is. But Marvel Comics writers took her backstory up a notch when they revealed that Black Widow possessed memories of being a Ballerina. Since Black Widow has had a really bad rapport with false memories implanted onto her mind, it would take some real effort to dig into her Ballerina past and come out with the actual truth regarding this. But if it is indeed true, then our next question would be – Why was she a ballerina in the first place?!?!?

 7. She was trained by Bucky

Facts About Black Widow Marvel

Since both Black Widow and the Winter Soldier were assassins trained by the USSR, they were bound to meet at some point. In the comics, when Black Widow was still under training, her mentor and training guide was none other than James Buchanan Barnes aka the Winter Soldier. They trained for years in the Red Room where Bucky Barnes helped Natasha, already a gifted student, hone her abilities and reach her maximum potential. The MCU would only hint at their past relationship (which by the way, budded into a romance in the comics).

 6. She is worthy of lifting Mjolnir

Facts About Black Widow Marvel

Marvel Comics has a plethora of What If…? Storylines! In one such storyline bordering on what would have happened if the Age of Ultron story arc went south and in another direction, Ultron manages to kill off all of the Earth’s mightiest heroes, including Thor. His hammer falls flat on the ground, no longer having a wielder to wield it. Natasha does the unthinkable when she lifts Mjolnir and becomes the new Thor – Goddess of Thunder. She is even instrumental in defeating the Frost Giants from destroying everything in their path.

 5. There are four other Black Widows!!

Facts About Black Widow Marvel

Natasha Romanoff may have been the first Black Widow but she is far from being the only one. After the Black Widow defected to America, the Russians created a second one. Her name was Yelena Belova and she was just as skilled as her predecessor. She was later turned into the Super-Adaptoid by Hydra. The second one was Monica Chang, wife of Nick Fury and the future Director of Shield. In the Ultimates Universe, Jessica Drew is actually a female Peter Parker clone and calls herself Black Widow. In the 2099 Universe, a woman that calls herself Black Widow literally devours men after having sex with them, just like a real-life Black Widow spider.

 4. She ate Spider-Man

Facts About Black Widow Marvel

This sounds really absurd but it actually has happened in a non-canon what if storyline. In that storyline, Spider-Man and Black Widow end up falling for each other and the story ends with Spider-Man being eaten by Black Widow for lunch. The female Black Widow spider is known to eat its mate after mating. But the way the comic book portrayed the Black Widow eating the web crawler was downright cringe-worthy and gross.

 3. Hawkeye killed her

Facts About Black Widow Marvel

In Earth 1610, the woman known as Black Widow was a total b*tch. While working with the Avengers, Black Widow was actually trying to screw the entire team all over. It was her who revealed to the entire world that the Hulk was actually Bruce Banner. She even framed Captain America for a murder she herself committed to escape prison. But the most unforgivable act was when she was responsible for the death of Hawkeye’s wife and child. When Iron Man and Black Widow were about to get married, the truth came out and Hawkeye confronted her. Iron Man was heart-broken but it was evident that Hawkeye must be the one to exact revenge. He did. He killed Black Widow of Earth-1610 in cold blood, something that should have been done a long time ago.

 2. Claire Voyant – The first Black Widow

Facts About Black Widow Marvel

That’s right!! Natasha is not even the original Black Widow. Back when Marvel was still Timely Comics, a woman called Claire Voyant did a deal with the Devil and helped him capture the souls of evil men that have escaped judgment. She called herself the Black Widow. After Timely Comics became Marvel Comics, Claire Voyant was pushed into the world of obscurity and Natasha Romanoff became the new Black Widow. The MCU later helped her achieve new heights of fame but let us not forget that it was Claire Voyant, not Natasha Romanoff, that started it all back in the 194omanoff, that started it all back in the 1940s.

 1. The Original Black Widow died and was replaced by a clone

Facts About Black Widow Marvel

In the storyline of Secret Empire, we realize that a lot of the Earth’s top superheroes have been replaced by shape-shifting Skrulls. Black Widow is also a target. But instead of kidnapping her and keeping her captive, the Skrulls just decide to kill her before letting one of their spies take her place. The Skrull Black Widow is later captured by the Good Guys but another Black Widow soon emerges. Turns out, the Red Room program likes to clone its agents and implant those clones with the previous one’s memories in case of the original agents’ demise, so that they do not have to train new ones. The new Black Widow you see in the comic books is actually a clone and the memory she has is not of her but of a different, preceding Black Widow who is no more.
