The MCU name has grown so insanely huge that almost anything and everything that they put out turns out to be a massive success. Movies like Ant-Man and the Wasp don’t hit $1 Billion or even $800 Million for that matter, but they still turn out to be very profitable. But these days, not just the US, but the entire world has begun to respond to all the Superhero films insanely well, and as a result, they turn out to be huge commercial successes. Captain Marvel has also had a similar story as far as the domestic and international Box Office is concerned.
It had the 6th biggest movie opening bringing in $456 Million, but now that also seems like a distant past. The film has a soared through its second weekend, and it does seem to have considerably strong legs. After having a $153 Million opening weekend, it has faced a 54% drop in its second weekend, but that is still good. It was expected because this surely isn’t the best film that Marvel has produced. But it is surely good, and that is why people haven’t dropped out completely from the theatres just like they did for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The Marvel brand image and trust amongst the fans has helped this film to bring in another strong $69 Million from its domestic Box Office in the second weekend and the total domestic numbers are $266 Million. As far as the worldwide Box Office numbers are concerned, Captain Marvel stands at $760 Million.
Just 10 days out and the film is closing in on $800 Million. The pace will surely slow down, but the film will still soar pass the $1 Billion mark. It has at least 60 more days to make just $240 Million, and its run has been extended in countries like China. So, there is no way that Captain Marvel won’t go past $1 Billion.
Even if the next weekend only brings in $30 Million, the film will still go hit $1 Billion with ease. It will most probably happen by the end of March. If not, then the first week of April. There is a very big chance that it will beat Aquaman which stands at $1.143 Billion worldwide. Captain Marvel has already struck out some big names in its Pursuit of Happyness.
Here are the movies that the film has beaten at the domestic Box Office – America: The Winter Soldier ($260 MILLION), Thor: The Dark World ($206 MILLION), Doctor Strange ($233 MILLION), and Ant-Man and the Wasp ($217 MILLION), Justice League ($229 MILLION), The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ($203 MILLION), Venom ($214 MILLION), X-Men: Days of Future Past ($234 MILLION), X-Men: The Last Stand ($234 MILLION), and The Amazing Spider-Man ($262 MILLION) and many more.
When it comes to the worldwide Box Office, Captain Marvel will soon beat the entire Fox X-Men Universe as it only stands behind Deadpool currently. When you talk about the Worlds of DC, it will soon take down Wonder Woman & BVS, and has already beaten the likes of Suicide Squad ($745.6 Million), Man of Steel ($668 Million) and Justice League ($658 Million). It will also beat all of Sony’s Spider-Man films.
When you talk about the MCU, it has beaten The Incredible Hulk ($263.4 Million), Captain America: The First Avenger ($370.5 Million), Thor ($449.3 Million), Ant-Man ($519.3 Million), Iron Man ($585.1 Million), Iron Man 2 ($623.9 Million), Thor: The Dark World ($644.5 Million), Doctor Strange ($677.7 Million), Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($714.2 Million). It will soon take down Guardians of the Galaxy ($773.3 Million), Thor: Ragnarok ($850 Million), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($863 Million) and Spider-Man Homecoming ($880 Million).
Disney is very proud of what Captain Marvel has become for everyone, and you could surely expect Brie Larson to be the face of the MCU, along with Chadwick Boseman, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Tom Holland. As Feige has said time and time again, she will be the next leader of the MCU.
