Avengers 4 is still 5 months away from us and because Marvel is not giving us anything, we have been transforming our own theories which are acting as fuel to our hype engine. These theories and certain set leaks & reports have put out a few rumours about what will happen in the film.
But following the production of the film closely and making sense out of it, we know that these rumors can never be true even in one of the alternate futures that Doctor Strange saw in Avengers: Infinity War. So here are the 10 rumors which are utter bullsh*t.
10. The X-Men will show up
It has been a long lost dream of all the fanboys to see the X-Men and the core Avengers crossover on the big screen. But it will actually never happen now even if we are so close to seeing the X-Men in the MCU. Disney will acquire Fox from January 1, 2019 and that would officially mean that the X-Men can be used within the MCU.
But Avengers 4 is already done with its shooting and even the reshoots, and the Disney Fox deal is not officially complete yet. So there is absolutely no chance for the X-Men to show up in Avengers 4.
Also, the film is jam-packed with characters and it will already be the film that showcases the biggest Superhero roster ever seen on the big screen. Adding the X-Men last minute without any context would make no sense even if it is there for fan service! What the ending of Avengers 4 could do is that it could leave the franchise on such a point where it would become easier for the X-Men and the Fantastic Four to join the MCU in the future.
9. Adam Warlock will show up!
This is a rumor that has been out there since the time before Infinity War. James Gunn set up Adam Warlock for the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise but people ended up thinking that it was done so he could be in the Avengers movies. In the Infinity Gauntlet storyline, Warlock had a significant role to play, which is why people have been so confused.
James Gunn already confirmed the fact that Warlock will not show up in any of the Avengers films and it is even doubtful for him to be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. So, his connection with the Soul Stone might be established later in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but not in Avengers 4!
8. Loki survived Infinity War
Ever since Thanos snapped Loki’s neck, people have been believing the fact that Loki might have played yet another illusion. He may still be out there getting ready to show up in Avengers 4! But Tom Hiddleston has already confirmed the fact that Loki is dead in the MCU, and he has known about this for the last 2 years. Here’s what he said at Ace Comic-Con:
“So, I’ve known about that scene for two years. I met with Marvel in May 2016, and they were actually telling me the story of Ragnarok with concept art and images. The Russos came in, and I introduced myself. So, all four of us sat down, and they said this is how Infinity War begins.”
Thanos said it in Infinity War that this time Loki has met his permanent demise with no coming back! So proving that Loki was pulling off yet another illusion would not just be too repetitive for the MCU, but it will also undermine the words of the Mad Titan, who is the biggest MCU villain. We know that Loki is going to be back in Avengers 4, but it will only be as a part of a flashback time travel sequence and nothing more.
7. Thane will be involved
The rivalry between Thanos and his son Thane has been huge in the comics, but it cannot be brought into the picture out of nowhere on the big screen. We saw the Black Order as Thanos’ children and it is confirmed that no more of his children will come into the mix out of nowhere.
The screen time for every hero in the film will be limited and the story has been very different from the comics, so Thane coming in, stealing the screen time of other characters & saving the day is just way too unlikely. As far as the MCU is concerned, there might not be a Thane at all!
6. Silver Surfer plays a huge role
Again, new characters cannot show up just like that without any basis being set up. Moreover, the Fox Marvel characters cannot be used until the deal is done. Avengers: Infinity War proved the fact that everywhere Silver Surfer had an involvement, his character was replaced by someone else.
Silver Surfer was the one who delivered the warning to Doctor Strange after getting beat up by Thanos, he in Infinity War, it was Bruce Banner who did that. So his role in the next film will also be replaced by the other characters of the MCU (if there is indeed anything that Marvel picks up related to his role).
5. Tony Stark is the new Sorcerer Supreme? WTF!
Right after the moment that people saw the set photo of Robert Downey Jr. wearing Doctor Strange’s cape, they have been assuming where the cloak of levitation will choose Tony Stark as its next companion. Rumors have even suggested that he will become the new Sorcerer Supreme. How in the world can any of it be true! Just think about it. This makes absolutely no sense.
4. A Flashback will show the destruction of Xandar
Avengers: Infinity War did not show us the decimation of Xandar. It just started off with Thanos already having the Power Stone, which implied that he will have already destroyed Xandar. The creatives behind the film revealed that the reason they chose for this option was that Thanos already destroys Thor’s ship and kills half the Asgardian population at the beginning of the film. And having him do that on Xandar would have been repetitions of montages.
So, they decided to save both time and a lot of CGI money and destroyed Xandar within our thoughts. But people actually think that with the time jump and everything happening in Avengers 4, we may actually see the gruesome flashbacks of the past including the destruction of Xandar.
If Marvel had to show us the demolition of that planet, then they would have put it in the first movie itself. There’s no point of even having a flashback that shows Xandar getting wrecked.
3. There’s a new Infinity Stone!
I mean come on! How did this even become a major rumor??
2. Thanos will regret his actions and undo the Snap
Thanos paid the ultimate price in order to achieve his destiny. He sacrificed the only person he loved to retrieve the Soul Stone in order to bring the Universe to balance. He fought and defeated all the Avengers in order to do that. Having gone through the pain of losing his daughter, he totally understood what the others must be feeling.
But since he is the most powerful being in the Universe now, people actually believe that he is unbeatable now. None of the heroes can defeat him. So seeing how his ultimate sacrifice did not pan out very well for the Universe, people actually think that he will regret everything that he did and set to undo the snap himself.
But them the entire story of the MCU will be way too convoluted and rather pointless. One film, Thanos fights with everything in his arsenal to achieve his goal, and in the next film, he ends up reversing all that! Why would anyone make this kind of a story?
1. The Dead heroes will stay dead (or at least some of them will!)
Infinity War ended on a very sorrowful note, showing us how half of the Universe’s population and our favourite heroes turned into nothingness. But we have known for quite a while that Avengers 4 will bring these characters back to life somehow as all those heroes have projects coming out in the future. Also Spider-Man: Far From Home has already been shot!
So, these dead characters are surely coming back. But rumor has it that in order to give us the ultimate surprise, these heroes might stay dead in Avengers 4, or at least a few selective of those will. But how is that possible? Either everyone has to return, or none of them. Having none of them return is not an option that Marvel could consider, so every disintegrated character is coming back, period.
