There is Actually a Real-Life Dinosaur Named After Thanos

Marvel Cinematic Universe has given us any heroes that we love and adore. Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor are just to name a few. It has also given us some really memorable villains. Loki may be the first one that comes to mind but Thanos is the one that will forever be remembered as the greatest MCU villain of all time. The Mad Titan oozes raw strength and power.

The moment he stepped into the MCU, the Avengers ran around like scared dogs with their tails under their legs. The Earth’s mightiest heroes bit the dust (literally) the second Thanos entered the fray. And to honour the level of power this guy holds, a felicitation of sorts has been awarded to the Mad Titan’s name. There now exists a dinosaur that shares its name with Thanos. Presenting – There is actually a real-life Dinosaur named after Thanos!!

Can you believe it? A real-life dinosaur actually has a name that rhymes with that of the meanest, baddest creature in the history of the Marvel Universe!!

In the year of 2014, a paleontologist by the name of Sergio Luis Simonatto was working with his team in a tract of land in a corner of the world when he discovered something. It was the remains of an entirely new Jurassic species that has its ties to the prehistoric Dinosaur creatures.

Brachyrostran Abelisuarid – that is what the creature is supposedly the closest relative of. The remains were then finally confirmed to be of the late cretaceous period aka the era of the Dinosaurs and the creature in question is, surprisingly, not the greatest apex predator of its time. Though, the creature has been confirmed to be a highly dangerous and violent carnivore. So there is something to take away from this.

Are you ready to know the name of that Dinosaur? After a lot of careful observation, the scientists have finally decided to use a comic book character as a prehistoric creature’s scientific first name. The newly uncovered dinosaur will be called Thanos Simonattoi.

The first name rings with that of the Mad Titan’s while the last name is derived from the guy leading the scientific expedition that led to its discovery. Thanos is a character created by Jim Starlin in the year 1973. But it only became a pop culture phenomenon after the character was featured as the big bad wolf in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War.

Here is the picture of the dinosaur we are talking about:

The pictures of the dinosaur show that its hands are way too short and stubby to be holding the Infinity Gauntlet. Where will this sharp little carnivore wear the universe’s greatest weapon ever? One fan claims that its feet might be the answer. Thanos as a dinosaur would look funny as hell. Thanos as a dinosaur wearing the Infinity Gauntlet like an anklet (more like an Infinity Anklet), would look even funnier.

Thanos appeared for the first time in The Avengers of 2012. The official film synopsis for the movie reads:

When Thor’s evil brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), gains access to the unlimited power of the energy cube called the Tesseract, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), director of S.H.I.E.L.D., initiates a superhero recruitment effort to defeat the unprecedented threat to Earth. Joining Fury’s “dream team” are Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).

The last Avengers movie to be released under the MCU banner was Avengers: Infinity War. The official film synopsis for the movie reads:

Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet — the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artefacts to inflict his twisted will on reality. The fate of the planet and existence itself has never been more uncertain as everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment.

Avengers 4 is set for release on the 26th of April, 2019.
