Henry Cavill: Topmost Contender to Replace Daniel Craig as ‘James Bond’

He has played the role of one of the most popular superheroes in the history of mankind and is now linked with a move to play one of the most popular and spy-agents of all-time. Yes, we’re talking about the man who is on the lips of everyone after reports of his departure doomed the entire industry. Now, again after some days of silence, Henry Cavill is getting linked with the role of James Bond and the rumor is getting out from one of the most trusted sources. Crazy Days and Nights, which is a very popular gossip site of Hollywood has not directly said it out but hints have been given by them about Henry Cavill being put in contention of playing the role of James Bond after Daniel Craig will hang up his shoes.

Henry Cavill has also stated his desire to play the role of James Bond while talking to Yahoo Movies and has stated,

“I think Bond would be a really fun role, it’s British, and it’s cool. I think now that I have my Mission Impossible badge we can do real stunts and really amp it up as well. Not to say they weren’t doing real stunts –I’m just saying it would be fun for me to actually take what I’ve learnt on this and carry it through to a movie like Bond. I’d love to play a Brit –I don’t get to play the Brit very often. So yes, I would love the opportunity and if they were to ask, I would say yes.”

Despite Henry Cavill admitting his immense desire for playing the role of one of the classiest and cool spies of all-time; it’s hard for any actor to fill the shoes of Craig when the legendary actor will finally leave the throne. In 2006, Daniel Craig was given the role of Bond for Casino Royale which rebooted the series. Craig has appeared for a total of four films and his fifth film is scheduled to release in 2020. The series has grossed almost $7 billion to date, making it the third-highest-grossing film series (behind Harry Potter and the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe), and the single most successful adjusted for inflation. Spectre grossed over $880 million worldwide, making it the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2015, the second-largest unadjusted total for the series after Skyfall.

It doesn’t matter who’ll play the role of James Bond in future because the legacy this character has is very big and to take his legacy to even greater heights, I think Henry Cavill is the right man because his own legacy is quite phenomenal as he portrayed the role of Superman in all these years with such dedication. His dedication surely defines him as an example of a good actor.

Author of Twilight series, Stephenie Meyer had expressed her desire in the past when she was outspoken in favoring Cavill playing the character of Edward Cullen in the Twilight film, calling him her “Perfect Edward”. However, by the time production of the film began, Cavill was too old to play the character, and again the role went to Pattison.

On 4 September 2018, it was announced that Cavill will be portraying the protagonist Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix adaptation of The Witcher. So, a lot is on the line for Cavill and he has also expressed his views on playing the role of Geralt by saying,

“The Witcher 3, I just replayed all the way through. Love that game. Really a good game. Absolutely, yeah, that would be an amazing. The books are amazing, the books are really, and really good…The books I started reading and they are well worth a read.”

Thus, a lot is happening in Henry Cavill’s life as links with the role of Marvel’s Cyclops, Logan and now James Bond are all very good options to pick up from for the actor. But it’s easy to see that he’s more interested in playing the role of ‘James Bond 007’ because he has had sort of a similar experience after being a part of the movie, Mission Impossible: Fallout. The television series created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich for Netflix, featuring Henry Cavill as the monster hunter Geralt of Rivia.
