Gambit Movie Rumored to Have a Filming Date by Fox
So the wait is over! Finally, the news has been broken and all the fans around the globe are falling here and there in excitement. There are rumors that say that the highly anticipated film, Gambit which is under the production of Simon Kinberg has finally decided the filming start date. Rumors suggest that Fox’s most awaited project Gambit will be heading to New Orleans for shooting. The much-delayed movie Gambit starring Channing Tatum as the X-Men’s Ragin’ Cajun and Lizzy Caplan (the role is not revealed yet) was expected to release two years later. Unfortunately, the project had always been doomed.
Despite initially intending to keep the March filming start, Fox removed the film from its production schedule by the end of January 2018 as Verbinski had decided to say goodbye to the project. At that time, the search for Verbinski’s replacement was underway, while the new June 2019 release date was expected to play better for the film as then it could have become a “Summer Marvel movie”.
The film was described as having a comedic and humorous tone. The movie revolves around a heist, and has also undergone a rewrite to make it “More New Orleans”. Fox expected another new draft of the script in March and still considered the film to be greenlit with a set budget despite the lack of the director, a new production start date of June 19, 2018, was set dependent on a new director being found in time.
Producer Simon Kinberg has also stated his views on the long development process of the movie, Gambit by saying,
“When you have these films that need very special and unique tone, it takes a little while to find that tone. Deadpool feels like it exploded out of nowhere, but it was a 10-year development process on that movie.”
During the premiere of ‘Deadpool 2’, the producer of the film has disclosed the news and said,
“We have a script that we love – that Channing loves.”
He also added to his words by talking about the search of the director for their film and may decide in the next couple of weeks. Director Rupert Wyatt joined the movie in 2015 initially; he also even started the casting process but was soon replaced by Doug Liman. Sadly, he also left in late 2016. It took Fox nearly one year to find another director, in the name of Gore Verbinski, but he also left the door at the beginning of 2018. The producers are still in search of a suitable director for their big project.
Some reports also suggest that the Gambit will be shot at the same studio that has been used for the movies like Dawn of the planet of the Apes and the X-Men predecessor Logan, the Big Easy Studios. Also, the movie will start its filming from February 15, 2019. Though the dates seem to be temporary and may change at any time, as we’ve seen in the past. But, now Fox is set and is well-determined to start the project again with all enthusiasm and excitement among their hearts.
Despite facing all the setbacks in the past, it’s easy to witness that lead Channing Tatum is really faithful to this movie despite the disturbance and shuffle of directors. Gambit isn’t a very small or ordinary character and Channing’s faithfulness for this will be rewarded with immense success when the movie will hit the big screens.
Gambit has been created by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee, he made his first appearance in Uncanny X-Men Annual #14 (July 1990) and Uncanny X-Men #266 (August 1990). With having some extraordinary powers to mentally create, control, and manipulate pure kinetic energy to his desire. He is also incredibly knowledgeable and skilled in card throwing, hand-to-hand combat, and the use of a bo staff. He is known to charge playing cards and other objects with Kinetic energy, using them as explosive projectiles.
Gambit was ranked as 65th on IGN’s “Top 100 Comic Book Heroes of all-time” stating that “Gambit is just the sort of tortured soul that X-readers love and his continued presence in the TV and movie spin-offs cements his status as one of the greats.” and in 2013, ComicsAlliance ranked Gambit as #4 on their list of “50 Sexiest Male Characters in Comics”.
So, do you think Fox can finally start this movie or they should just drop this idea forever?
