This year has been big for Hollywood and Superhero movies as every Superhero movie has made it big at the Box Office except for Ant-Man and the Wasp which has shown lower profits than the other 4 which came out prior to it. While action movies like these have made big profits this year, the Horror movie genre, in particular, has not had anything big to show. 2017 was good, 2019 will be great but 2018 has been quiet until now. Well, it won’t be from the next month as we have The Nun and The Predator coming out. Even Venom is going to have an element of Horror in it. So, let’s just keep our fingers crossed.
People all over the world have loved James Wan’s ‘The Conjuring’ movies. James Wan has impressed everyone with is work throughout Hollywood and has proved his versatility in many genres (Furious 7, upcoming Aquaman) and has become the king of horror, thriller movies directing the likes of The Conjuring and Insidious Chapters. Now he has written the upcoming ‘The Conjuring’ spin-off – “The Nun” along with Gary Dauberman (Annabelle, It) and the movie has been directed by Corin Hardy.
The Nun was a very influential and horrific character in ‘The Conjuring 2’ played by Bonnie Aarons. Aarons’ performance was so impactful that it really terrified people to death! Her performance and the character was loved by the general viewers as well as the critics. This impressive performance caused the character itself getting its own spin-off movie. Check out the second trailer of the movie:
WB has set up a whole Horror Universe with The Conjuring and Annabelle franchises, and now The Nun is going to continue that taking the franchise even further. The first trailer for The Nun created a big buzz and now people are really excited about this upcoming horror flick. Now that we all have seen the trailers and teasers for it, WB has released a real life 360 Degree Teaser which will have your heart faster than the Flash. Check it out and make sure you watch it till the very end:
Holy Crap that was something! Watching this creepy teaser does make us feel that we are hyped for the right reasons. The early box office predictions for The Nun are very high as the last reports mentioned that it will gross within the range of $32-37 Million at the Domestic Box Office within the first three days. Having seen this threatening teaser and moving closer to the release of the film, the excitement is surely going to go up. Which means that the opening numbers at the Box Office could also rise to go as high as $40 Million.
If the movie does produce these results then it will take over the Annabelle franchise and probably equal The Conjuring franchise which will be a great feat to achieve. All four movies of this Horror Universe which have come out till now have been really profitable as The Conjuring brought in $319 Million worldwide at a budget of $20 Million. The Conjuring 2 had a budget of $40 Million and it brought in $320 Million worldwide. Annabelle grossed $257 Million in total at a budget of just $6.5 Million and Annabelle: Creation made $306 Million worldwide at a budget of $15 Million.
Similar or higher results are expected from The Nun! If it turns out even a bit more horrific than any of the two Annabelle movies, then we could actually expect earnings as high as the two Conjuring movies got. James Wan, the King of Horror had something really interesting to say about the film and its director. Here’s what he said:
“I love Corin. That guy is amazing. I put Corin in the same camp as David. You know, like, really young, hungry, upcoming filmmakers, full of passion for the genre. Corin is such a monster movie-nut and I just love the guy’s passion. All these up-and-coming filmmakers remind me of what I was when I started with Saw. That’s the kind of filmmakers I would love to continue to foster through Atomic Monster. So, I’m very excited for what Corin has done with The Nun, and right now we’re in post-production, putting the film together.”
Here’s the official Synopsis of the movie:
“When a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania takes her own life, a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate. Together, they uncover the order’s unholy secret. Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of a demonic nun.”
