Avengers: Infinity War was one of the most thrilling Superhero movies to have ever been made. The Winter Soldier and Infinity War are probably the only two MCU movies that have a big thrill towards the end of the movie. Infinity War is the biggest movie in terms of scale and scope, and it has the most number of actors and characters to be appearing at once. Don’t even ask about what the movie has done at the Box Office, as it will be making $2 Billion worldwide pretty soon.
Avengers: Infinity War unveiled a completely new direction of the Marvel cinematic universe, one that was more dependent on the characters than the story. Albeit, the Marvel cinematic universe has always aspired to make strong statements with their characters, Infinity War was probably the first time that they succeeded. The entire idea surrounding the development of this movie (and splitting the end of Marvel cinematic universe’s phase III into two different movies that are more than an year apart. Now, why would Marvel do this ?
On obvious answer is to create hype and torile up the audience for future releases , another idea is because marvel is planning something. And knowing that comic books that the movies of this cinematic universe are inspired from I won’t be surprised if it was the latter.
The entire build up for the Avengers: Infinity War movie made it seem like that this was the movie that will shape history, and although the payoff was less satisfying or mind blowing than expected, the movie still has a lot of subtle hidden details that allow us to speculate and theorize about the future event in the series. One such event is what our article is about today.
Read on to discover a theory so convoluted and absurd that the only way you believe it would be if it we’re the absolute truth which in this case might be the real picture
The fans were really hyped about the movie because of the number of players involved in it. Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Thor, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Spider-Man, the Guardians and many more going up against the biggest threat to this Universe, the Mad Titan Thanos. He really proved himself to be the biggest MCU villain ever, as he is the only one who actually beat the Avengers and accomplished his life’s goal which was to wipe out half the population of the entire Universe.
There were so many things that came into play in this movie that every other scene felt like a shocking and fan-pleasing surprise. One of the big mysteries that will probably be solved in Avengers 4 was the fact that Thanos actually knew who Tony Stark was. Before the movie came out, Joe Russo revealed that Tony Stark will have a special connection with Thanos which no one knows about. Here’s what he said:
“It’s all the heroes. I think he has the most specific connection to Tony because Tony is a futurist, and he has predicted a threat like Thanos. It’s lived in his brain even though he couldn’t name it. Tony is the most desperately driven, down to the core, to react against something like Thanos, although all the heroes will face a threat, no matter who it is or where it comes from. But I think this is intrinsic to Tony’s psychology, and because Tony started it all with Iron Man, he has a special connection to the threat that’s facing him.”
Well, in the movie we saw that Tony Stark and Thanos had a pretty brutal one on one against each other and Stark almost came to an end. Our fears were woken when Thanos stabbed him, but Strange saved him at the end.
Before the dual, we saw that Thanos outright called him “Stark!” he knew exactly who Stark was and this came across as a big surprise for us and Tony as well. Thanos continued saying that Stark is not the only one cursed with knowledge. The reason for him knowing Stark has not been revealed yet and we will probably find that out next year.
But, we could obviously predict how he knows Stark. There could be two possibilities to this. One would be that not just Stark, Thanos knows each one of those Avengers who beat him in the previous encounter as he is the one who sent the Chitauri to Earth and we saw him appear in that post-credits scene. Word traveled to him somehow telling him about everyone who stood against him in Avengers 1.
But the reason why he did not recognize Captain America was because he first of all had a beard and a changed look, and secondly Thanos was just shocked to see an Earthling being so strong that he was actually able to hold the Infinity Gauntlet back.
But the second and the more probable reason for Thanos knowing Stark is that Stark was the one who flew into the portal with the nuclear missile and destroyed all of the Chitauri and their ship. So, that is probably why he knows very well who Stark and does not know specifically know about the other Avengers except for Thor.
Stark is one of the most popular beings on the planet and that is because of what he has done with his knowledge. Thanos, on the other hand, says that he is also cursed with Knowledge, so that knowledge also gives him the insight upon the ones who could stand against him in the future.
It can be largely argued that the entire Marvel cinematic universe is just a series arc for Iron Man, that the executives at Disney decided after Iron Man and Iron Man 2 that as neat as Kevin Feige’s idea of a shared universe sounds, it would be better to such use that shared universe to build an over the top decade long series arc for Iron Man.
Think about it for a moment, from day one the approach of the marvel cinematic universe has been Iron Man-centered, the plot lines, the movies and even the action sequences and sidekick choices. Over the years Tony Stark has assumed the role of a general, a scientist, a Playboy, a superhero recruiter, an inventory, a lone wolf and a superhero all at the same time.
The sequence from Age of Ultron shows us how Stark was shown visions of the future, how the Scarlett witch brought for the deepest darkest fear of Tony Stark along with other Avengers. The only problem with this discussion, however, is that Stark’s fear was that the Avengers will come face to face with a force so strong that no matter what they try there would be no stopping the inevitable, maybe that is exactly what transpired in Infinity War.
Maybe the entire movie was just a realisation of the Avengers’ fate which was foreshadowed by both Scarlett Witch and the writers with the infamous “Thanos Bath scene”. Be that as it may no matter how ignorant you are you cannot ignore the fact that the mad Titan has conquered the known universe and now the Avengers must find a way to reclaim their world.
Well, this could turn out to be the real reason, but let’s see if it does turn out to be true. Avengers 4 will open next year on May 3.
