4 Best Performances by Zidane as a Player

Zinedine Zidane is among the top footballers to have ever played the game. The retired French national was recently drafted as the Manager by his old team, Real Madrid. During his tenure at Real Madrid as an attacking midfielder, Zidane gave same memorable performances. With a bag of mixed results this season, Madrid would be hoping that Zidane turns it around for them like he did in the past with France, Real Madrid, Juventus and every team he represented. As an honor to the legend, we bring to you his best performances. Listed below are the best performances by Zidane as a player:

Juventus vs Ajax: 4-1 (Champions League 1996/97)

Zidane said in an interview:

The game I always go back to is the Champions League semi-final for Juventus against Ajax. We won 4-1 and I set up two goals and scored one myself. We were looking at the stats after the game and I saw that I had given away very few balls. My passing was right on the button. I was on the top of my game that night.

France vs Brazil: 1-0 (World Cup 2006)

Zidane was in complete control that day. He single-handedly won the match for France as he controlled the mid-field and also provided the crucial assist through a free-kick to Thierry Henry which guided the team into the semis.

France vs Brazil: 3-0 (World Cup 1998)

It was a great World Cup for France, but in the finals they had an uphill task of defeating the defending champions Brazil. Zidane bought in his A-game and scored two of France’s three goals and was declared Man of the Match. In a way, this game scripted Zidane’s career.

Real Madrid vs Bayern Leverkusen: 2-1 (Champions League 2002)

This famous goal by Zidane in the final of 2002 Champions League, won Real Madrid their ninth European Title. The score was level at 1-1 and Zidane scored the winner in the 45th minute to bag the match. It is still regarded as one of the best goals in history of football.

In his new role as Real Madrid’s manager we hope that Zinedine Zidane re-creates his magic once again for the Spanish Giants.
